DOUGLAS WOOD JUNE 5, 2006 It is with great sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of our brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Douglas Murray Wood, on June 5, 2006. Douglas was born in Aberdeen, Scotland, on November 12, 1925, the son of a fisherman. As a young man he enlisted in the British Navy and went off to war in 1943. Following the war in 1948 he decided to come over to Canada to start a new life where he subsequently settled in Winnipeg, Manitoba. There he met and married Marion Gertrude Noble in 1950 and began to raise a family. Douglas was employed at Western Savings and Loan Company and later by Investors Syndicate as an accounting clerk, until his retirement in 1985. Douglas was a gentle, compassionate, loving father who never had a bad word to say about anybody. He loved people, nature, walking, golf and was an avid swimmer. He also enjoyed writing and telling stories. He loved his cottage at St. Laurent and spent many summers there with his family. Douglas was a long standing member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years and was very proud of the anniversary medal he received. Douglas was predeceased by his parents George and Isabel; and by his loving wife of over 50 years, Marion. Doug is survived by his brother Jimmy (Olga); and his three sons and a daughter, Gavin (Joy), Gordon (Lori), David and Judith (Jon); three grandchildren, Amanda, David Jr. and Samuel; and two great grandchildren, Jaiden and Emmy; as well as many close friends. The family would like to extend their thanks for the compassionate care given to our father by the nurses of Grace Hospital, Ward 3N. Good-bye my family, my life has passed, I loved you all to the very last. Weep not for me, but courage take, Love for each other, for my sake. For those you love don't go away, They walk beside us every day. Rest in peace; we love you forever Viewing will take place 12:00 noon followed by funeral service at 1:00 p.m., Friday, June 9, at Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway. Private interment will follow at Chapel Lawn.
