LAWRENCE THEODORE THORLACIUS Lawrence, born January 16, 1921 at Selkirk, MB, slipped away to be with his Saviour on June 10, 2006, with his family by his side. He leaves to mourn his sister Ella Koops; his sister-in-law Phyllis; nephews, Gary (Verna) Koops, Johann (Carol) Thorlacius, Kevin Thorlacius, Dean (Sandi) Thorlacius, Lenard (Donna) Johnson, Robert (Glenna) Johnson, Brian (Laura) Johnson, Dennis Larson, Brian (Debra) Larson; nieces Eleanor (Robert) Boychuck and Georgina (Robert) Lorette; 23 great-nieces and nephews, many relatives and friends and special friend Gummi Jonsson. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Emma, his brothers, Johann, and Wilson, his sisters, Gudrun and Beatrice, his brothers-in-law, Harry Koops, Arthur Larson and Stanley Johnson. Lawrence spent many years in the construction business working for Edwin Thorkelsson and Brodsky Construction. He worked for Brodsky's when the road from Gypsumville to Grand Rapids was built, also the streets of Thompson, MB. One of the last projects he worked on in Manitoba was the runway for the airport at Norway House. Lawrence also worked in Saskatchewan in such areas as Coronach, Deschambeau, Prince Albert, and on the foundation of Saskplace Saskatoon's Arena. Lawrence had many friends and often slipped away to have coffee and a chat with someone in the neighbourhood. His mode of transportation was not by car, but often by a John Deere tractor. He joined the army and went overseas in 1942, returning in the Autumn of 1945. Lawrence was wounded during the war and was treated at a field hospital in Germany, carrying some shrapnel in his arm till his death. Cremation has taken place, and a graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2006 at Betel Cemetery (Silver Bay). Lunch will follow at the Ashern Legion Hall. The family wishes to thank John and Glen for their many acts of kindness, also Pastor Nancy Walker for her service, and the Legion and members for their participation in the graveside service, and to the Legion ladies who prepared and served the lunch.
