Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBILL (BALAZS) SZO It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our father and grandfather on November 6, 2006 at the age of 72. He was predeceased by his wife Katalin (nee Martin); son Robert; parents Maria (Kuly) and Istvan Szo; brother Istvan; sister and brother-in-law Veronica and Ernie Toth. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Marianne (son-in law Tim), Jon, Steve (daughter-in-law Louise), Tom; his grandchildren, Courtney, Riley, Taya and Tyler; close friend and companion for many years, Helen Kovach and her son Joe (Magda); brothers Frank and Jozef and numerous nieces and nephews and relatives in Hungary. Born April 16, 1934 in Hungary, Dad experienced many adventures through the Second World War and the Hungarian Revolution. Immigrating to Canada in the late 1950's, Dad and Mom first settled in Kenora, ON where they met many of their lifelong friends. They would eventually make their way to Winnipeg. This became their home where they raised a large and busy family. Dad worked for the City of Winnipeg until his retirement in 1995 after which he did some travelling and spent much time gardening and fixing just about anything for others which was his passion. He will be fondly remembered for his wit, charm, generosity, straight talk, and for sharing many stories of his life. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Boniface Hospital 6A South, staff at Riverview 3 East, the Palliative Care nurses who took great care and understanding with Dad and our family, Dr. Balko and those that were involved in his care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Boniface Hospital Research Foundation, 409 Tache Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2H 2A3. A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 13, 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home with interment and reception to follow.
