GEORGE MICHEL MATHIEU SZYDA March 13, 1949 January 11, 2007 A good and gentle man has left us. It is with great sadness that our family announces the sudden passing of a loving son, husband, father, brother, uncle and the best friend you could ever have. Born 57 years ago in Gonesse, France, George immigrated to Canada with his parents and his sister Colette. He was predeceased by his father, Stanislaw, in 2002. George will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 36 years, Elaine, his daughter Jacquie (Jason) and his son Matthew (Leanne). Left to mourn are his mother Wanda, sisters Colette (Rod) and Gienia (Ken), his brothers Ted (Pat), Mark (Diane) and Andrew (Teri); Wujek Peter, cousin Rick and his extended family Doris (Tom), Jim (Evelyn), Donna (Claude) and Diane (Joe). Uncle George will also be dearly missed by his many nieces and nephews: Jennifer (David), Kristopher (Michelle), Trevor, Sean, Stephanie, Erika (Oscar), Benjamin, Juliana, Jason, Ryan, Kirsten, Alyssa, Neil, Michelle, Jasmine, Trevor, Anneleise, Shanleigh, Keane, Sean and Caylee. George will also be greatly missed by his life long friends Kaz and Arlene. George had a fulfilling career as a home care worker with the WRHA. He provided outstanding care for his clients throughout the years and made many friends along the way. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for the compassion and care expressed by the staff of the Seven Oaks General Hospital and of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at the Health Sciences Centre (nurses Sarah, Kate, Steve). As per his wishes, a celebration of George's life will be held Sunday, January 14, at 927 Dorchester Avenue from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation in George's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
