Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOROTHY TACCHI (nee SONTAG) It is with profound regret and sorrow that we announce the death of Dorothy Tacchi at the age of 66 years. With family by her side, our beloved mom, grandma, sister and friend passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 3, 2007 at the Poseidon Care Centre. Remaining to forever cherish Mom's memory are her husband Giuseppe; son Mark (Bobbi) from San Francisco, California, daughter Angela (Riccardo) from Gualdo Tadino, Italy, and daughter Patricia (Jon) from Winnipeg; grandsons, Marco, Francesco, Adam and Peter; her sisters, Alweina (Ted) and family from Winnipeg, Mildred (Micki) and family from Edmonton and Bertha (John) and family from Vancouver, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Helen and Phillip Sontag; brother Edwin, and sister Evelyn. Born October 17, 1940 in Morden, Manitoba, Dorothy came to Winnipeg in 1956, and married Giuseppe Tacchi in 1958, raising three children. Mom enjoyed her work, from sewing in Eaton's drapery factory, as a baker, as a cook in various restaurants to opening and managing her own restaurant in downtown Winnipeg with her daughter Angela in 1980. In the 1990s, Mom's caring nature led her to find work in home care and finally as a nurse's aid at the Deaf Centre Manitoba. When not at work she enjoyed traveling, basking in the sun at the beach, going out for coffee and just hanging out with her kids. She will be remembered as an ambitious, generous lady with an incredible sense of wit and humour. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 9 at 11:00 a.m. in the Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Avenue, with Rev. Fr. Sam Argenziano, presiding. Entombment will follow in the Queen of Heaven Mausoleum in Assumption Roman Catholic Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue. The family would like to extend a most sincere thank you to the caring and professional staff of Poseidon Care Centre, Dr. Smart and to the many friends and family that provided support through their visits during Dorothy's last days. If so desired, memorial donations may be made in memory of Dorothy to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba Inc., Unit 10-120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 4G2 or to the charity of ones choice. The clouds are gone The sun will shine Unto our lives You shone upon For you worked hard And cared for us Never complained Or made a fuss Your sense of humour And authentic wit Will forever continue to inspire us.
