Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOAN VIOLET THOMSEN (nee SCOTT) Unexpectedly on Thursday, February 22, 2007, Joan Thomsen passed away at the age of 68. Born on July 8 1938, in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba. Joan and her family moved to Winnipeg when she was a young girl. She enjoyed all types of sports highlighted by her love of figure skating. She attended the ice club of greater Winnipeg. During that time she competed in the Western Canadians, followed by a short period as a skating instructor. Joan attended and graduated from Daniel McIntyre High school, where she met and developed friendships that have lasted a lifetime. She eventually married and became a loving mother, giving all she could to make sure her children were loved and cared for. They spent summers at their cabin in Victoria Beach. There she enjoyed her love for nature and all living things, while also honing her skills of another passion, golf. Joan's faith was also very important to her. She was very active with the first Lutheran Church on Victor Street. This is where many more lifetime friendships were made. She also spoke often of her years when she worked as a legal secretary at TDS. Joan developed a lasting bond with her many co-workers, their Thursday night dinners and bridge nights were very special memories. Joan was a modest, strong and selfless woman. Her unfailing kindness and generosity were gifts she bestowed on those who knew her and had the privilege of sharing in her life. Left to cherish her memory are her mother Helga; son Ross; son-in-law Brad; sister Elizabeth (George) and their families; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Predeceased by her daughter Kristine; father Ralph Scott; aunts and uncles, Joseph and Agnes Scott, Grace and Peter Stewart, George and Daisey Scott, Rae Scott, Caye Scott and Violet Helgason. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 10 at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, 580 Victor Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the First Lutheran Church, R3G 1R2, Cancer Care Manitoba, P.O. Box 2248, Winnipeg, R3C 4A6 or Rossbrook House, 658 Ross Avenue, R3A 0M1.
