NIKODEM (NICK) TAWKIN Peacefully on April 17, 2007, Nick passed away at home at the age of 88. He is survived by his daughter Wanda (Mark) and son Edward (Janice); grandchildren, Jason, Samantha, Tammy (Rod) and great-grand-children, Destiny and Cali. Nick was born in Jody, Wilno, Poland on September 15, 1918. He was a veteran of the Second World War, served duty in the Polish Armed Forces stationed in Italy. During his service he received numerous medals and honours for his term of service. He came to Winnipeg on November 23, 1946 and worked 27 years at CP Rail, retiring in 1983. He was an avid traveller, especially Europe and Hawaii. Dad enjoyed gardening, mushroom and blueberry picking, BBQ-ing T-bone steaks, going to Grand Beach, being an event photographer and enjoyed being a handyman , no job was ever too big! Dad loved to talk, debate, discuss and entertain everyone with stories. He remembered details from the War, his travels and his entire life. He had many loves and many heartbreaks but continued to take risks. Above all he was a family man and he was always there for everyone. He lived life to the fullest. Prayers will be said on Friday, April 20 at 6:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 21 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Avenue with an Oblate Father as celebrant.
