MARIE TINA THORKELSSON (nee IEES) It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, auntie and friend, Marie Thorkelsson, on May 18, 2007, at the Lakeshore General Hospital. Marie was born April 18, 1930, in Craik, SK. She was raised on a farm and worked in the banking business in Craik, Viscount and Saskatoon, SK. She met Raymond Thorkelsson on a visit to Winnipeg. After they were married they lived in Winnipeg before moving to Ashern in 1967 where they owned and operated a Marshall Well's store for many years. In semi-retirement she worked tirelessly for the creation and maintenance of the Ashern Legion where she was a lifetime member. Throughout her life Marie loved horses, enjoyed skiing in Squaw Valley, and she particularly enjoyed spending time at Silver Bay, boating, making Saskatoon pies, playing bingo, and above all, get-togethers with her family. Marie also helped her son Hazen with his variety store for a few years. After a lifetime of love, caring, devotion and kindness, she will be deeply missed by her husband Raymond; son Hazen (Angie), her pride and joy two granddaughters, Jodi and Jessica; other relatives and special friends too numerous to mention. She was predeceased by her son Harold Gregory in 1955; a daughter Jodis Thea in 1975; her mother and father Nastacia and Peter Iees; sister Sophie Richlew; two brothers, George and Vernon Iees. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, May 27, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. in the Grace Lutheran Church, Ashern, with Pastor Jane Zinken officiating. A luncheon will follow immediately after the service at the Ashern Legion Hall. Interment to follow the luncheon in the Betel Cemetery, Silver Bay. Friends and relatives may pay their respects from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 26, 2007, at the Arnason Funeral Home in Ashern. Viewing also at the church prior to the service. Active pallbearers will be Joe Richlew, Mike Hjladky, Dustin Hjladky, Eric Hjladky, Joe Michno and Darren Larson. Honorary pallbearers will be Bonna Peppler, Jean Postlethwaite and Evelyn Budge.
