ERNEST ALBERT THOMPSON June 6, 1923 - July 12, 2007 It is with profound sadness the family announces the passing of their 84 year old beloved father and grandfather, Ernest Thompson. Predeceased by his parents, Robert and Anne; wife Frances; sisters and brother Audrey, Vivian, and Bert; Ernie is survived by his brother Lloyd (Amy); sons, Bryan (Lyn) and Jim (Anne); daughter Joan (Joe) and grandsons, Adam (Ellen), Chris, Ryan, Kevin, and James. Ernie will always be remembered for his love, dedication and devotion to his family. There was certainly nothing more important to him than his wife, children and grandchildren. His uncanny story telling ability will also be remembered. Regardless of the topic, Ernie could always weave an entertaining and humorous story for the enjoyment of others. Weekend trips to Gimli were the norm in the summer. Sitting around campfires at Gimli was typically an opportune time to share his gift. Ernie was also an avid horseshoe player. The games, tournaments and friends at Gimli were always cherished. Ernie was born in the west end of Winnipeg. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the Air Force to serve in Second World War. In 1946 he married the love of his life, Frances Murphy. Throughout his working life he co-owned and operated Thompson Furniture Mfg. with his brother Lloyd. Outside of work, his time was usually spent supporting and chauffeuring his children in their activities and in later years doing the same for his grandchildren. Ernie would wish for others to continue living life to the fullest. He will be greatly missed. When I come to the end of the road, and the Sun has set for me, Why cry for a soul set free? Miss me a little but not too long, And not with your head bowed low. Remember the love, that once was shared. Miss me, but let me go. Unknown Cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held for family and Ernie's friends at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2007 in the Wheeler Funeral Chapel, 211 Regent West at Bond St. In lieu of flowers, if desired, a donation in Ernie's memory may be made to the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements in care of: WHEELER FUNERAL CHAPEL 211 REGENT AVENUE AT BOND STREET 224-1525
