BERNARD GARNET TAYLOR It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Bernard Garnet Taylor on August 26, 2007, at Beacon Hill Lodge, Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of 80 years. Bernard was born on the farm near Stonewall, Manitoba, April 7, 1927, the son of Andrew and Dina Taylor (Assels). Bernard lived on the family farm with brothers Charles (died in infancy), Walter, Mancel and Basil, and sisters Barbara, Bessie, Doris, Iona and Joyce. Bernard worked as a blacksmith until he enlisted in the army to serve during 1945. Fortunately the war ended shortly after, and Bernard was not called abroad. Bernard met his future bride Shirley McKay while working with the CNR in Biggar, Saskatchewan. They were married in 1952 and moved back to Stonewall where they lived with their daughter Shirley-Ann (Goodman), born on July 24, 1955. They adopted another daughter Cheryl-Lynn in 1963, and the family lived for several years in Selkirk, Manitoba, and later Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Bernard was an exceptional handyman, skilled in carpentry, plumbing and basic repairs. He always loved working on the family home, adding on a new room or doing some kind of improvement to make it special for us all. Home was everything to Bernard but he also enjoyed family vacations and traveling, in particular, through British Columbia and the beautiful mountains there. He always called it God's Country. One of Bernard's greatest joys were his two granddaughters, Victoria and Charity Goodman. They were the apple of his eye and there were many trips spent with grandpa, fishing, enjoying amusement parks or spending time together at home. Bernard was a kind and generous man who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 1 at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bernard's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB.
