STEWART TAVENER Peacefully on March 14, 2009, Stewart Tavener passed away at the age of 86. He will be sadly missed by Irene, his devoted wife of 60 years. He will also be missed by his children, Guy (Heather), Greg (Glenda), Patrick, Timothy (Sandra), Calvin (Carol), Colleen (Ralf), Sharon (Wayne) and also by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Stewart was born in Winnipeg on January 10, 1923. He spent his early years working side-by-side with his father on the family farm near Dugald. He later became a mechanic, which led him to a long career with the Manitoba Department of Highways. Stewart and Irene were married in 1949, and resided in Winnipeg until 1966 when the family moved to The Pas. Stew loved the outdoor life around The Pas, and enjoyed spending time with his boys hunting, fishing and trap shooting. They moved to Beausejour in 1974. Having loved airplanes as a child, Stew fulfilled his dream of flying, and obtained his ultralight pilot's license. He was also a gifted woodworker, creating many beautifully crafted wildlife carvings. A memorial service will be held at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 20, 2009. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society.
