Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySYLVIA TIBBS (nee MCLEOD) 1923 - 2009 It is with heavy hearts our family announces the sudden passing at home of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Sylvia Tibbs on Monday, May 18, 2009. Sylvia is survived by a son Robert; daughter-in-law Carolin; grandchildren, Marlies, Pamela, Matthew, Teri-Lynne, Harry, Oliver and Ian; great-grandchildren, Evan and Marli; a daughter Susan Hayward; son-in-law Gordon; grandchildren, Cynthia, Aynsley, Courtney and Stuart; great-grandchild Alexandra Elizabeth and a son Hugh; daughter-in-law Lynn and grandchildren, Robert and Colin. Sylvia was predeceased by her loving husband of 51 years Robert in 1996. Sylvia was born in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia and went to school and worked in Halifax, Nova Scotia. It was here she met and married Robert who was stationed in Halifax while he served in the Royal Canadian Navy. After being married they returned to Winnipeg where they worked and raised their family. Having retired from Canada Packers in 1986, Sylvia enjoyed a busy and active retirement. Travelling with Robert on numerous trips to Hawaii and other destinations, they enjoyed one very special trip to Ireland. After Robert's passing, Sylvia became very involved as a member of the Transcona Legion No. 7, becoming a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and working on the annual Poppy Campaign. To the end, Sylvia maintained an active and busy life, working with the Legion and participating in many weekly events. She continued to travel, having just recently returned from a short trip to the United States. She maintained an independent life, living in the family home and still driving herself to her many activities. The family would like to extend thanks to the First Response Unit and the Paramedics from the Ambulance Service who arrived on site to take care of our mother. And to the Emergency Room staff at Concordia Hospital for their care and compassion during such a difficult time. A memorial service will take place on Monday, May 25, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the Transcona Memorial United Church, 209 Yale Avenue West, with Rev. Jeff Cook officiating. Interment with husband Robert at the Transcona Cemetery will occur immediately following the memorial service. A luncheon will follow at the Transcona Legion, 117 Regent Avenue East. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Sylvia's memory to the Ladies Auxiliary of the Transcona Legion No. 7 Mom..you are missed..
