NORMAN VALDIMAR THORDARSON Norman Thordarson, aged 79 years of Gimli, Manitoba, loving husband of Vilborg passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at the St. Boniface Hospital. Norman was born in Hnausa on December 20, 1929. Norman was the last surviving child of Jon and Jona Thordarson of Adabol. He was very proud of his Icelandic heritage and passed this on to his children and grandchildren. He met and married Vilborg (nee Vigfusson) his wife, companion and best friend for all of his life. His children and family were his pride and joy. He is survived by his five loving children: Douglas and his wife Sharon, their children Corey and his wife Megan, Erin and her husband Matthew Roberts; Leslie and his wife Sharon, their children Jon, Braden and Andrea; Norma and her husband Robert Walld, their children Tracy, Tim and his wife Lorella and Tamara; Dolores and her husband Greg Harrop; Russell and his wife Lynne and their children Cailey and Lindsay. He was very proud of his three great-granddaughters Johannah and Arika Thordarson and Alicia Walld. Special grandson-in-law Mike Troschuk and golden girls Lara and Lacey, sisters-in-law Gunna Sigurdson, Inga Johnson, Alice Sigurdson, Lily and her husband Dick Schooley and Darlene Daniels as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He worked hard all his life in many varied careers. Fishing on Great Slave Lake and Lake Winnipeg; driving a fuel truck at C.F.B. Gimli; making and delivering boats for Lake Winnipeg Boat Works; working for the R.M. of Gimli. After retiring he enjoyed his time with family and friends at Gimli Home Hardware. In keeping with his wishes cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Special thanks to Gimli Ambulance, Gimli and St. Boniface Hospital staff for their compassion and care. To the Ones I Loved So Dear You needn't tie yourselves to me with tears, Be happy that we had those years. I gave to you my love and can only guess, how much you gave to me in happiness. I thank you for the love you have shown But now it's time I traveled on alone. So grieve a while for me if grieve you must, Then let your grief be comforted by trust. It's only for awhile that we must part, So bless the memories within your heart, I won't be far away for life goes on, So if you need me, call and I will come. Though you can't see me or touch me, I'll be near, And if you listen with your heart you'll hear, All of my love around you soft and clear. And then when you must come this way alone, I'll greet you with a smile and say, Welcome Home . We all love you and will miss you dearly. Goda Nott Afi Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements.
