VERA MARGARET THOMPSON Peacefully on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at the Portage District General Hospital, Vera Margaret Thompson of Portage la Prairie, widow of the late Stanley Thompson, passed away at the age of 74 years. Funeral service will be held in the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Portage la Prairie on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor John Blum officiating. Interment will take place in the family plot at Big Point Cemetery at 4:00 p.m. Vera was born on August 4, 1935, daughter of William and Evaline Smith at Shoal Lake, Manitoba. She was raised and received her education in the Green Bluff School District. She was employed at Martins Bakery in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. In 1958 she married Stanley Thompson and in 1973 they purchased a hotel at La Riviere, Manitoba and later a motel in Yorkton and Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. In 1995 they retired to Portage where she has since resided. Vera was a member of the Lutheran Church of Canada and later the Redeemer Lutheran Church of Portage. She was a member of the Lioness Club at Moose Jaw. During the years they operated the Motels, she enjoyed visiting with those who called in for a room. Vera was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening and growing flowers. Predeceased by her parents, her husband Stanley in 1999, her brothers; Cecil, Bob, Bill sisters; Gladys McMurachy and Doreen Hodgson, she leaves to mourn her passing her sisters Gwen Winstone, Ethel (Vern) Griswold, sister-in-law Sarah and many nieces and nephews. Should friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Central Plains Cancer Care Services, 318 Saskatchewan Ave. E., Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 0K8 or the Canadian Diabetes Association, 200-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 0S6 The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Quesada, the nursing staff and health care workers of the Extended Treatment Unit and Medical Ward of the Portage District General Hospital and Home Care workers for the love and compassion shown to Vera.   • At Easter we reflect on the life we had together with you and Stan. Although it will be seven years this, our thought remain with.
