GIUSEPPE (JOE) TACCHI January 6, 1927 - November 26, 2010 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing away of our Dad on Friday, November 26, 2010 at the Victoria Hospital at the age of 83 years. Remaining to forever cherish Joe's memory are his children Angela (Riccardo) from Gualdo Tadino, Italy; Mark (Bobbi) from San Francisco, California; and Patricia (Jan) from Winnipeg; grandsons, Marco, Francesco, Adam and Peter. He was the second youngest of seven siblings and the first of them to pass away: Ersilia (Santino) Belucci, Elio (Giuseppina) Tacchi, Emilia (Giuseppe) Radicchi, Vincenzo (Giovanna) Tacchi, Eugenio (Annetta) Tacchi, Nazzareno (Cesarina) Tacchi. He is predeceased by his wife Dorothy; parents Alfonso Tacchi and Teresa Cambiotti. Born in Segillo (Perugia) Italy, Dad's family farmed land in exchange for shelter and food. In search to make something of his life, he borrowed just enough money from their land owner and immigrated to Canada in 1951. With ten dollars in his pocket and a ship ticket to pay back, he worked as a miner, a machinist and a taxi-driver, sending money back to his family eventually sponsoring the immigration for his four siblings to join him in Winnipeg creating the beginning of a legacy for his siblings and their families. He bought his first house, saved and lived in close quarters with his siblings raising their families together allowing the purchase of several other homes. In 1958, Dad fell in love with a bright, energetic, young girl, Dorothy Sontag. They married and celebrated 49 years of marriage until her sad passing in 2007. The majority of Dad's working life was with the Canadian Pacific Railway where he retired at 60. Joe will be remembered as the most mischievous of his siblings, quick to protect his sisters. He was often the life of the party, especially when family was together, where he enjoyed music, tango dancing and sharing his knowledge through his personal stories. His trademarks were his classic pinstriped suit, a comb in his back pocket and his well-coiffed hair. Dad, you always worried about your children and your efforts were so that we could get ahead in life and these efforts are instilled in all that we do and make us who we are today. We've learned what it means to stick together as a family and to accept life changes as they arise. Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at 11:00 a.m., in the Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Avenue, with Rev. Fr. Sam Argenziano, presiding. Entombment will follow in the Assumption Roman Catholic Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue. For those who wish, viewing will be held prior to Mass beginning at 10:30 a.m. Pallbearers will be Jan Krompiewski, Joe Tacchi, Giordano Radicchi, Anthony Radicchi, Anthony DeLuca and Richard Giardino. The family would like to extend a most sincere thank you to the many relatives and friends who provided their care, and support especially over the last few months. Donations may be made in memory of Giuseppe Tacchi to the Centro Caboto Centre, Italian Canadian Centre of Manitoba, 1055 Wilkes Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3P 2L7 where Dad's name will be etched onto a commemorative wall plaque in his honour or to the charity of one's choice.
