MARY ESTHER TALLENTIRE (FINDLAY) (nee WYATT) On March 2, 2011, Mary Tallentire passed away peacefully. Mary was born on February 24, 1926 in Broadview, SK and grew up on her parents' farm and eventually they moved into the town of Broadview. After graduating from Broadview High School in 1943, Mary attended Moose Jaw Normal School and attained her teaching certificate. Mary taught at Burger School, Whitewood, SK. In 1950, she married George Alvin (Al) Findlay and they moved to Winnipeg, MB where their sons Gavin and Curtis joined their family. In the early 1960s, Mary became a single mother and returned to teaching, while she raised her sons. She taught at Brock Corydon School, and attended the University of Manitoba to enhance her teaching skills which she applied while teaching at Montrose School (Winnipeg), teaching mentally challenged students. In 1976, Mary married Ronald Tallentire and she moved to the farm in Whitewood, SK. Mary had a fondness for animals and adopted a stray dog and a few stray cats. In their retirement years, they left the farm and settled in the town of Whitewood SK. Mary and Ron enjoyed visiting with family and friends, and especially cherished visits with their children and grandchildren. They enjoyed travelling and spent many winters in Phoenix and Texas. Left to cherish her memories are her son, Gavin [wife Thelma Findlay (Winnipeg, MB) and grandchildren Samantha (and Jeff Bourget) and Gavin J.]; her son, Curtis [wife Patricia Findlay (Canmore, AB)]; her stepdaughter, Barb [husband Joe Cranswick (Coquitlam, BC) and grandchildren Christine and Travis Gillespie, Kimberly and Keith Holloway]; and her step-son, Bill [wife Bonnie Tallentire (Langley, BC) and grandchildren Julia, Austin, and Thomas]. Also, her sisters Anne Ostlund and Margaret Petrie (both of Regina, SK); numerous nieces and nephews and families. Mary was predeceased by her parents Alfred Samuel (Sam) and Sarah (Archer) Wyatt; her brothers Samuel Douglas (Doug) and Arthur (Art) Wyatt; her sisters Catherine Fanny (Kay) Gamble, and Sylvia Waller. It is with great sadness that on March 4, 2011, Mary's husband Ron Tallentire also passed away. Funeral Service for Mary and Ron Tallentire will be held on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 (2:00 p.m.) at Knox Presbyterian Church, Whitewood SK, with interment to follow at the Whitewood Town Cemetery. Matthews Funeral Home, Whitewood SK in care of arrangements (306) 735-2335. In lieu of flowers, donations, in Mary's memory, may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, or to Whitewood Community Health Centre, Whitewood, SK.
