MIRIAM ELIZABETH SYMBOL (nee HODGINS) June 5, 1926 - August 31, 2011 With deepest sorrow we would like to announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Miriam Elizabeth Symbol, on August 31, 2011, at the Ste. Anne Hospital. Miriam Elizabeth Symbol was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Elizabeth (nee Bailey) Hodgins; husband, Tony; sister, Ruth and brother, David. She is survived by her children, Richard (Simone), Bruce (Lori) and Elizabeth, six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Miriam grew up in Transcona, Manitoba. In 1945 she came to Ostenfeld, Manitoba, to teach Uppingham School. It was here that she met the love of her life, her husband, Tony Frank Symbol. They were soon married on September 21, 1946, at the Calvary Temple in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Miriam loved to sing, first in Sunday School, Young Peoples and later in the Church choirs, she also sang many solos for weddings and funerals. Miriam was an active member of the Ostenfeld Lutheran Church. She was a past president of the Evangelical Lutheran Christian Woman's Group, taught Sunday school and vocational bible school. Her love for gardening and flowers were shown though her large vegetable gardens, many hanging baskets and flower beds. She will be missed greatly by her family and friends. Mother You can only have one mother, patient, kind and true. No other friend in all the world, would be so true to you. For all her loving kindness, she asked for nothing in return. If all the world deserted us, to mother we would turn, To those who have a mother, treasure her with care. For you will never miss her, Till you know that she's not there. The family would like to thank Dr. A.A. Bissonnette, Dr. P. Fredette and all the nursing staff at Ste. Anne Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ostenfeld Lutheran Church or a charity of one's choice. Funeral service will be held on Saturday September 10, 2011 at the Ostenfeld Lutheran Church at 11:00 a.m. Until we meet again. Funeral Arrangements In Care Of WHEELER FUNERAL CHAPEL 211 REGENT AVE.
