EDWARD WILLIAM SHANDRUK September 9, 1947 - November 28, 2011 In the early morning hours of November 28, 2011, we lost our brother, uncle and best friend, following a lengthy illness. Ed was predeceased by his father Harry Shandruk (1989), stepfather Christian Handkamer (2007) and mother Anne Handkamer (2011). Ed leaves to celebrate his life, his brother Dennis Shandruk (Betty-Anne), nephew Ryan Shandruk (Melanie) and his great-nephew, Riley Shandruk, all of Calgary. Ed was born in Winnipeg, spent his youth here, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Winnipeg. His career in the insurance industry began in Winnipeg and then took him to Toronto in 1984 where he remained for the next 13 years. Upon his retirement from Manulife in 1996, as Manager, Policy Issues, Ed travelled for a year and then returned to Winnipeg to re-establish his roots. Ed was an avid camper and fisherman and took every opportunity to get out of the city and into the bush. He was the proud qualifier of a Master Angler certificate, having caught a 72 cm (28.35 inch) walleye in Traverse Bay. He was known for his attention to detail and meticulous organization skills. Pens and pencils had to be lined up just so on his desk and he used a ruler to write to make sure the lines were perfectly straight. At Ed's request no funeral service will be held. A private interment will be held on Friday, December 2, 2011 at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. If desired, memorial tributes may be made directly to a children's charity of your choice.
