ANNA BERG June 23, 1915 - November 30, 2011 Anna Berg (nee Schroeder), 96, of Winnipeg passed away on Wednesday November 30. She was predeceased by her husband Cornelius, her parents Frank and Helena Schroeder of Halbstadt and nine siblings. She is survived by her daughters Debbie (Ken) and Terry (Harvey). She is also survived by five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Anna was born and raised in Halbstadt, MB and was the second of 15 children. She was married on August 11, 1935 in Sommerfeld, MB in a double wedding with her sister Sarah. From 1935 to 1940 they lived with family members. They moved to Tolstoi, MB in 1940, to Pansy, MB in 1941 and to Roseau River, MB in 1942 where they remained until 1952 when they moved to Winnipeg. In 1956 they once again moved into their own place. In 1955 they adopted their first daughter and in 1957 the second daughter. Her family attended Christian Fellowship Chapel for many years where she was involved with children's ministry, VBS and Jr. Young People for nine years. She was a stay-at-home mom before that term was popular. She made commercial fish nets for John Leckie Co. for 18 years, teaching many young people, including her own girls, in the basement of her home. After the death of her husband she moved into Bethel Place where she lived until July 2011. She entered hospital and later a nursing home. She found it very difficult not to be able to return to her own place. She was a very strong and stubborn woman that was capable of working hard and never gave up on anything. She loved crafts of every kind, as well as knitting, sewing, crocheting, painting and cooking. She taught her children to be strong and work hard. That legacy has been what kept her going for so many years. She saw nine of her siblings pass away that were much younger and often asked, why not me? She rallied many times in the last few years from illness. Her faith in the Lord kept her. She often said she did not worry, she prayed! She had many health issues with many surgeries as well as loss of walking, eyesight and hearing. But still she remained strong. Last Thursday she spoke about how things for her were not the same anymore. We told her she had to make a new normal at the nursing home. She agreed, but said she did not have to like it! God was gracious to her and took her home after only 17 days at the nursing home. She was a wonderful mom to her daughters, a super grandma that would do anything for her five grandkids and loved her 11 great-grandkids immensely. We miss you and cannot yet believe that you are really gone. We will always remember you and although we are sad and tearful we praise the Lord that you are with Him, Dad and your siblings. Free from pain and restrictions! Funeral service and interment will be Monday, December 5 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg. Viewing one hour prior to service.
