TENA FRIESEN Tena Friesen of Winnipeg, Manitoba, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 2, 2011, at Victoria General Hospital after suffering a fall in her home. Born in Hague, Saskatchewan, on January 8, 1933 to Mr. and Mrs. John Loewen, Tena became a school teacher after graduating high school in Winkler and then normal school. During her years of teaching, she continued her own education at the University of Winnipeg, where she earned Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degrees. Tena was a devoted Christian, and studied the Bible diligently throughout her life. She combined her faith in God with her musical talent by playing the organ regularly at the Gospel Mennonite Church in Winnipeg. Among Tena's favourite hobbies were quilting and doing jigsaw puzzles, and she was also an avid Scrabble player. She also loved travelling, and visited many countries in every corner of the globe. She was well known for her ability to cook delicious meals and for her meticulous housekeeping. She loved entertaining large groups of family and friends at the family cottage on the shores of Falcon Lake. Tena faced many serious health issues in her life, starting in her 40's, but she persevered with faith, courage, and determination. Tena was married to Ike Friesen in 1952, a successful auto dealer, who predeceased her in 1988. Tena is survived by her son, Garry, her grandchildren, Jeff (Tetjana), Andrew (Tess) and Jennifer (Bill), her great-grandchildren June, Luke and Frank, her sisters Marie (Neil), Betty (Brian), Eva and her brother Jake (Sandra). Tena's kind and compassionate personality will be deeply missed by all of those that were close to her, and there will be a deep void in many lives without her presence. She will finally join her husband who has been waiting for her for all of these years. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on December 8, 2011 at Morrow Gospel Church at 755 St. Anne's Road in Winnipeg. This will be followed by a reception at the church and afterward at 2:30 p.m., the burial will take place at Green Acres Cemetery. A public viewing will also be held on Wednesday, December 7 at Green Acres at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC).
