L'ABBE LOUIS-PHILIPPE JEAN L'abbé Louis-Philippe Jean est décédé le samedi 3 décembre, au Centre Taché (Actionmarguerite), à l'âge de 87 ans. Louis-Philippe, fils de Clovis Jean et de Dora Bourassa, est né à Saint-Marc de Shawinigan, Qc, le 2 mars 1924. Outre le presbytérium de Saint-Boniface, il laisse dans le deuil ses frères Henri, Camille, Georges, Adrien, Richard et André, ses soeurs Marie-Blanche, Pierrette, Gisèle et Rachel. Il a été prédécédé par ses parents, sa soeur Rose-Anna et son frère Roch. Louis-Philippe a fréquenté l'école Saint-Marc de Shawinigan (1931-1940) et le Séminaire Saint-Victor de Beauce (1946-1954). Il poursuivit ses études en théologie au Grand Séminaire de Saint-Boniface (1954-1958). Mgr Georges-Léon Pelletier, Evêque de Trois-Rivières, l'ordonna prêtre, pour l'Archidiocèse de Saint-Boniface, le 13 juin 1958 à Trois-Rivières. Sa première nomination fut celle de vicaire à la Cathédrale (1958-1960). Il fut ensuite vicaire à Saint-Claude (1960-1963); successivement curé à Sainte-Geneviève / Ross / Arondale (1963-1967). Il prit une année sabbatique comme étudiant à l'Ecole dominicaine de pastorale à Montréal (1967-1968). Il revint comme curé à Powerview (1968-1969), puis brièvement comme curé à Richer (1969). Il fut vicaire à la Cathédrale (1969-1971), curé à La Broquerie (1971-1976), curé à Sainte-Agathe puis à Morris (1976-1981) et de nouveau vicaire à la Cathédrale (1982 -1985). Suite à une demande de l'Archevêque de Regina, l'abbé Jean accepta d'être administrateur paroissial à la paroisse francophone Saint-Jean-Baptiste à Regina (1985-1996) jusqu'à sa retraite du ministère paroissial régulier en 1996. Il continua cependant à assurer un ministère de remplacement dans ce même Archidiocèse avant de déménager à la Résidence Saint-Antoine en 1997. Il accepta ensuite d'être aumônier à la Maison provinciale des Filles de la Croix (1999-2004). En 2009, il dut, à cause de son état de santé, devenir résident au Centre Taché. L'abbé Jean était ardent et enthousiaste dans son ministère pastoral. Il avait un intérêt particulier pour la nouvelle évangélisation tout comme pour l'alimentation naturelle. Il était avide d'apprendre et un stage pour les prêtres à Pierrefonds, Qc (1981) et un autre avec la Famille Myriam Beth'Léhem à Baie-Comeau, Qc, ont été pour lui des expériences marquantes de ressourcement (1981-1982). D'autre part, il s'est toujours montré disponible et prêt à rendre service avec tout son coeur dans toutes ses affectations pastorales. Une veillée de prière pour l'abbé Louis-Philippe Jean aura lieu à la Cathédrale de Saint-Boniface le vendredi 9 décembre à 18h30. La messe des funérailles, précédée du visionnement à 9h30, sera présidée par Mgr Albert LeGatt, Archevêque de Saint-Boniface, le samedi 10 décembre à 10h00 à la Cathédrale Saint-Boniface. L'inhumation suivra dans le cimetière de la Cathédrale. FATHER LOUIS-PHILIPPE JEAN Father Louis-Philippe Jean passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 3, 2011, at Taché Centre (Actionmarguerite). He was 87 years old. Louis-Philippe, son of Clovis Jean and Dora Bourassa, was born in St Marc de Shawinigan, QC, on March 2, 1924. Besides the St. Boniface presbyterium, he will be remembered by his brothers Henri, Camille, Georges, Adrien, Richard and André; his sisters, Marie-Blanche, Pierrette, Gisèle and Rachel. He was predeceased by his father and mother, his sister Rose-Anna and his brother Roch. Louis-Philippe attended St. Marc de Shawinigan School, QC (1931 to 1940) and then St. Victor de Beauce Minor Seminary (1946 to 1954). He pursued his theology training at the St. Boniface Major Seminary (1954 to 1958). Bishop Georges-Léon Pelletier, Bishop of Trois Rivières, ordained him to the priesthood in Trois Rivières, QC, for the Archdiocese of St. Boniface, on June 13, 1958. As his first appointment, Father Jean was Parochial Assistant at St. Boniface Cathedral (1958 to 1960), then at St. Claude Parish (1960 to 1963). He was Pastor in St. Geneviève/Ross/Arondale (1963 to 1967). During a sabbatical year (1967 to 1968), he was a student at Ecole dominicaine de pastorale in Montreal. Upon his return, he was appointed Pastor in Powerview (1968 to 1969), and for a short while in Richer, MB (1969). He was Parochial Assistant at St. Boniface Cathedral (1969 to 1971); Pastor in La Broquerie (1971 to 1976), in Ste. Agathe and in Morris (1976 to 1981). He was again appointed Parochial Assistant at St. Boniface Cathedral (1982 to 1985). Following a request from the Archbishop of Regina, Fr. Jean accepted to be assigned as Parochial Administrator of St. Jean Baptiste francophone Parish in Regina (1985 to 1996) until his retirement from regular Parish ministry in 1996. He did remain for an occasional ministry in the same Archdiocese before moving to Résidence St-Antoine in St. Boniface in 1997. He was chaplain at the Provincial House of the Filles de la Croix from 1999 to 2004. In 2009, he moved to Taché Centre because of failing health. Father Jean always showed eagerness and enthusiasm in his pastoral ministry. New evangelization, as well as natural food or medicine were special concerns to him. His pastoral renewal sabbatical in Pierrefonds, QC (1981), and the year spent with The Myriam Beth'lehem Family in Baie Comeau, QC, were very enriching experiences in his life's journey. Moreover, he was always ready to give a helping hand. A Prayer Vigil for Father Louis-Philippe Jean will be held in St. Boniface Cathedral on Friday, December 9 at 6:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass, preceded by viewing at 9:30 a.m., will be presided by the Archbishop of St. Boniface, Albert LeGatt, D.D., on Saturday, December 10, at 10:00 a.m., in St. Boniface Cathedral. Interment will be in the Cathedral cemetery. 586-8044
