BERNICE BLEUE It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Bernice Bleue. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Les, her children Debbie (Kevin), Darcy (Tammy), grandchildren Jennifer, Greg, Lisa, Ryan, Jeff, and Steven, sisters Shirley and Alice, brother Nick, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Nick and Lena Safriuk, and brother Bill. Born in Sirko, MB on December 4, 1941, she spent her childhood on the family farm before moving to Winnipeg to complete her education. She was employed with MTS, Loblaws, and until recently worked as a waitress at Smitty's on Regent, having just celebrated her retirement in October. Mom met dad in the spring of 1962 and they married on November 17 of that year. They resided in Winnipeg until 1978, when they moved to Oakbank, MB, returning to live in Winnipeg in 2002. Mom loved keeping her Ukrainian traditions alive, and enjoyed spending afternoons with her sister Shirley making perogies and cabbage rolls that were devoured and enjoyed by her family. When her grandchildren were asked if they wanted perogies for supper, the reply always was are they Granma's? Dad and mom spent much time going to movies, her grandson's Jeff and Steven's hockey games and spending time with her children and their families. Friday nights were reserved for cards with the Millers. In recent years, they had began traveling to Florida, Arizona, and cruising the Mexican Riveria. Not knowing what the future held, we are so fortunate to have celebrated Mom's 70th surprise birthday party on November 19. You were greatly loved and will be forever in our hearts. A celebration of mom's life will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Oakbank Baptist Church 26033 Springfield Road, Oakbank, MB. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Moon, the cardiac team, and all the ICU nurses at the St. Boniface Hospital for their compassionate care of our mom during this difficult time. You are truly angels on earth. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations please be made to the St. Boniface Research Cardiovascular Fund 351 Tache Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R2H 2A6.
