Date of Passing: Dec 13, 2011
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY HOCULAK (nee HUCKLES) January 21, 1904 - December 13, 2011 Sadly, but peacefully and with a smile on her face, Mary passed away on December 13 at Beacon Hill Lodge in the presence of her loving daughter, Gloria. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Nicholas, on Christmas morning in 1985; by her parents, Dorothy and Leon and by her siblings, Julia, Ted, Sonia and Anna. As a young woman, she was extremely active in dramatics and performed in many roles with local companies. She married Nicholas in 1923. They had one child, Gloria. Mary will surely be remembered for her quick wit, her genuine charm and delightful sense of fun and humour. Mary and Gloria travelled extensively; her favourite holiday was their trip to Hawaii. Mary loved her kitchen! Among friends, she was famous for her brandied Christmas cake and also for her pickled onions which were given to special friends as gifts. Theatre and movies were some of her great pleasures. She honoured one of her favourite actors, Michael Caine, by naming her cane Michael! A memorial service was held on Tuesday, December 20 at the Thomson Funeral Chapel on Broadway. The service terminated at the Chapel. Should friends so desire, donations may be made to a charity of their choice. The family wishes to thank Home Care, Dr. M. Burke and staff at Beacon Hill Lodge for their support and loving care.
