LONG (MURDOCH) August 14, 1929 - December 17, 2011 Mom passed away quietly and with dignity on the afternoon of December 17, after a short stay in the Grace Hospital. She was predeceased by her parents, Charlie and Elsie Hearn; her brothers, Ellis, Don; and her daughter Charlene. She is survived by her children, Heather Williams (Bob), Diane Semper (Rick), Rob Murdoch (Susan), her eight granddaughters and three great-grandchildren. Mom was born in Cudworth, Saskatchewan and raised there until the Second World War when her family was re-located to Winnipeg, her father serving in the R.C.A.F. Mom was always proud to be a Prairie Girl . Mom was Past Matron of the Mespah Chapter #14, Order of the Eastern Star, and maintained her membership for over 40 years. She held various offices in her sorority, Beta Sigma Phi. She had just received her 50 year pin, and so enjoyed her long friendships with her sorority sisters. Mom's interests were many but first and foremost were her family and friends. Her happiest years were spent at Laurelwood, the family cottage at Matlock. This was a place she called home and looked forward each spring to a new season of entertaining and being surrounded by those close to her heart. The August birthday weekends were always a treasured annual event. Mom's life was all about relationships. Her gift of love, laughter and nurturing to all of us has blessed us with bountiful memories of what made her a special Mom, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. She will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue.
