One of my fondest memories of Aunt Mabel is the way she took time to play with us nieces in our childhood years- be it throwing a softball or just joking around. I enjoyed her sense of humor and her heart for helping others who are hurting. This was especially noticeable to her blind niece Eleanor until her death earlier this year. In later years, Aunt Mabel shared how she'd always felt a loneliness that was never filled - a need that originated with the loss of her twin. If I could have wished her anything & have it come true, it would have been a decreased sense of this loneliness & loss. Despite her frailties - or perhaps because of them - Aunt Mabel will always have a special place in my heart. - Posted by: Karen Gustafson (nee Thiessen) (Niece) on: Dec 27, 2011

My sisters and I spent many memorable hours with our dear Aunt Mabel. In a way, she was unique among aunts. She had a great sense of humor and loved to tease. My girls talk about walking home from grade school and stopping in with a friend to play Yahtzee. She had fun with her great nieces too. We will miss you Aunt Mabel. Thanks for being you! - Posted by: Hilary (Niece) on: Dec 27, 2011
