WALTER ALBERT KOLEY July 5, 1926 - December 25, 2011 On a beautiful sunny Christmas Day, surrounded by his loving family, Walter Albert Koley entered peacefully into eternal rest. Left to forever cherish his memory is Jane, his loving wife and soul mate of 67 years; his children Paula (Peter) Ahi, Janice (Bill) Larkin, Dave (Lil) Koley, Carla (Paul) Cronin, grandchildren Eric (Melissa), Jennifer (Jason), Michael, Kristen, Ashley (Doug), Andrew, Meghan (Dusty), Tyler, Abby; great-grandson Johnathan, and brothers Bernard, Leonard and Lawrence. He was predeceased by his eldest son Wayne, his parents Francis and Albert, stepfather John Obirek, stepsister Helen, and stepbrothers Andy and Stanley. Dad worked from 1946 to 1954 at CN Rail. He later joined the Winnipeg Police Force where he worked for 29 years, retiring in 1981. From 1973 to 1988 he and Jane acquired a restaurant infamously known as Jane and Walter's where they devoted their time and energy into making their dream a success. An integral attribution to the success story was his never ending, high spirited energy, warm and over flowing hospitality offered to everyone that passed through their doors. Dad will be fondly remembered for his playful sense of humour, his compassion to give and do for others, and his endless and intense hardworking ethics he modeled and passed onto his children. Dad was an active and life member of the Knights of Columbus East Kildonan Council #4107, executive member of Sir Knight Francis Patrick Kennedy Assembly #1937. During his retirement years he volunteered for CancerCare driving patients to their treatments. Dad and mom spent their winters traveling to Florida, Texas and Palm Springs where they met and exhibited their generous hospitality to their many new friends. Dad was in his splendor when family visited and he was able to personally provide his guided tours and colourful commentary along the way. Celebration of dad's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, January 2, 2012 at St. Gerard's Church, 45 Foster Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. Honorary pallbearers will be Eric Ahi, Jason DeWet, Michael Koley, Andrew Larkin, Tyler Cronin and Johnathan DeWet. Special thanks to the staff at the Kildonan Medical Clinic, particularly Ruth Byquist, St. Boniface Hospital medical staff, granddaughter Jennifer who provided dad with dedicated care and compassionate support throughout his illness, Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Service, and to Constables Davidson and Remillard from the Winnipeg Police Services who displayed professionalism and immense compassion to our family during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111 www.gleneden-mb.ca
