Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLAURA RACHELLE PENNER (nee MARION) It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our dear Laura Penner on December 22, 2011 at the age of 70 years. She will be forever missed by her daughters and families: Janette (Rudi van Neikerk) and Rachelle (Paul Sarrasin), their children Sébastien and Sophie. Laura is survived by her mother Armande Marion, two brothers Ernest (Paule), Ronald (Irène), her sisters: Doris Morin (Albert Combot), Edith Clark, Paulette Vermette (Roger) and Marielle Hoffman (Gerald), brother-in-law Dale Ostrom, nephews and nieces and members of the Penner family. Laura was predeceased by her father Adonai Marion, her sister Jeannine and the father of her children Dennis Penner, her sister-in-law Lucille Marion, her brothers-in-law Eric Clark, Antoine (Tony) Morin and nephew André Morin. Laura grew up on a farm near Arnaud. She attended boarding schools in St. Adolphe, St. Malo and graduated at St. Pierre Collegiate. After obtaining her teaching certificate, she taught school for a number of years. She married Dennis Penner on Valentine's Day in 1970 and chose to live on a small farm in Ross (MB) to raise her girls. For Laura, education was important. In 1989, she completed her Arts degree at Saint-Boniface College. Laura continued to teach in the Seine River School Division. Her two daughters benefitted from her knowledge and dedication! She adored writing stories in the La Liberté, Laura wrote a column page: La petite Métisse vous parle...to share her experience and knowledge about the Métis people. She had begun to write a series of short stories for her grandchildren. Reading history was her passion. Laura felt rewarded by helping people at Our Place Chez Nous Drop In Center. La Place Des Meurons was her retirement home where she enjoyed the social life. Laura will be missed by the Union nationale métisse Saint-Joseph du Manitoba for her input of ideas, projects and mostly for her humour! If friends and family wish, a donation can be made to the Diabetes Foundation in Laura's memory: Canadian Diabetes Association, 200-310 Broadway Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6. In keeping with Laura wishes, cremation has taken place. A private funeral with her immediate family was held. Repose en paix, bonne maman! On sait que tu veilleras sur nous. Miss you Dear sis. You left without saying goodbye. I had so many things to share with you. I’ll miss your visits and phone calls…your jokes. You told me how Rudi’s and Paul’s families had welcomed your girls with open arms. They will look after them. My sincerest sympathy to Paul, Rachelle, Sophie, Sébastien, Janette and Rudi.
