JANET (MARLENE) WHITE
Date of Passing: Dec 27, 2011
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJANET (MARLENE) WHITE In Winnipeg, December 27, 2011 Marlene was the beloved wife of Drury who predeceased her in 1997 and loving mother of son Allen and partner Simonne, and daughter Vicky and husband Peter. She leaves to cherish her memory six grandchildren, Tricia, Tara, Danielle, Alain, Randy, and Drury; two great-grandchildren Hailey and Cameron; brother Barrie and partner Hazel; and many, many, wonderful friends with whom she shared her love and her life both in Manitoba where she was born and raised and in Sacramento, California where she lived and worked for many years. Spunk - toughness, boldness, guts - with passion. Spunky' is the one word that has been used to describe Marlene repeatedly and with good reason. She lived a spirited life with determination, courage and braveness in everything she undertook and every challenge she faced. From her meager beginnings in general retail after raising her children to accomplished gemologist of the highest regard, there was nothing that she could not accomplish once she set her mind to it. Marlene was never just interested in something, she immersed herself (and sometimes Drury too) in it. From New Orleans Jazz music where they would go every year to the Sacramento Jazz Festival to not only enjoy the music but volunteer, or losing her voice from cheering on the Sacramento Kings basketball team, or taking courses as a part of the commitment to being a (volunteer) condominium board director, or knowing every detail of a collector T-Bird or Corvette on the Barrett Jackson auction, nothing was ever half-baked. Although there were many, it was not so much the accomplishments that people admired, but the resolve, dedication, and enthusiastic style that was uniquely, Marlene. One dear friend said, I want to be thought of as Marlene White is thought of.... and conduct myself in her manner . I'm sure of all her successes, this honour would be the most cherished, and something that she taught us all to strive for. Special thanks to Linda Davidson and Dr. Marshall Pitz at CancerCare Manitoba for their compassionate care and friendship. Consider yourselves danced'. Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation or CancerCare Manitoba. Private family interment will be held January 3, 2012 at Chapel Lawn.
