ERNIE LINDGREN April 5, 1941 - December 30, 2011 I've enjoyed my life and was happily retired at the time of my passing. I am grateful to have been surrounded by my family: Iris, my wife of 48 years, together in good times and bad; my son Grant with his wife Gerry and my granddaughters, Morgan and Avery; my daughter Tara; and my son Brian with Nancy. I am very proud of my children. I was also blessed with the company of some of my closest friends. I was born on the farm in Teulon, and although I lived most of my life in Winnipeg, I was lucky to be able to spend much of my retirement days back at the farm. I'm happy to have never lost touch with my family from those early days: my twin sister Ivy, my cousins Len (Margaret), Dorothy (Bob), Ken (Marsha), Flo (Wilf), Lorraine (Bob), and Lyle. I even got a new brother when Ken married my sister-in-law Pat. There is also John Langston (Carol), who has been a true friend since we were kids together in school, and I have a bunch of great nieces and nephews. I happily remember my working years from 1959 to 1994 with Monarch Life, North American Life and Manulife, where I met so many life-long friends that I'm not able to mention them all here, though I would like to. Thank you for your friendship over the years. Thank you also to the friends I made in my hobby job at Rona from 1999 to 2006. I have many fond memories of curling at the West Kildonan Curling Club, going back to 1969, and I'm proud to have served as president of the club in 1975 / 1976 and to be an active member of the P.P.W.K.C.C. I have very fond memories of camping and fishing with my family and friends, and of the many hunting trips with all my good hunting buddies. I have made many friends curling, camping and hunting, and I am proud to have maintained many of those friendships. I had the fortune to call Iris' family my own: Vicky and Gary, Harold and Valerie, George and Mary. I want to thank Vicky for being there for Iris, especially in these last tough months. I had a good life and I died peacefully. Thanks to Dr. Macek for his counselling and direction, to Nurse Kent and the other staff at the Concordia Hospital ICU. Thanks also to Dr. Chowdhury, Nurse Linda and the staff at CancerCare Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Concordia Foundation so that others may benefit from the same type of care that I had. A Gathering for family and friends will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 1:00 p.m., at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044

Condolences & Memories (11 entries)

  • Me deepest condolences to Iris and the rest of Ernie’s family. I am truly saddened to hear of his loss. Ernie was one of my first bosses upon completing college. My early years in my career at Monarch life were greatly influenced by this great individual. His guidance and encouragement had a significant impact on the successes I have had since those days. My memories of all the great work we did and the fun times we had at the numerous social events will be cherished forever. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. - Posted by: David Bay (employee at Monarch Life) on: Jan 07, 2012

  • My heartfelt sympathy goes to Iris and her family. Ernie was a great e-mail friend that I never really met but I sure enjoyed his jokes every day. I will miss them. Take care Iris - Posted by: Linda Romas (e-mail friend) on: Jan 04, 2012

  • My sincere sympathy to Mrs. Lindgren and family. I had not worked with Ernie since the 90s at NALACO, but I will never forget his thoughtfulness and humour, even in stressful moments. He was a great team player, and all around good guy. I wish I could remember some of the witty repartee so I could share, but alas, all I have are brief flashes of moments. Needless to say there is always laughter in them. He was well respected by all. He touched my life, and he will never be forgotten. - Posted by: Rae Jones-Roche (Former co-worker) on: Jan 03, 2012

  • I was very saddened to receive news of Ernie's passing. I had kept aware of what was happening with Ernie since the last time I saw him (years ago) through Art Bilodeau and Len Klassen. And now, very sad news for us all. Iris and family, may you find peace and comfort from the thoughts and prayers of all of us who were touched by Ernie's life. My first job out of college was at Monarch Life working with Ernie enhancing and maintaining the Life computer system. I benefitted a great deal in my career by the support I received from Ernie. There is comfort in knowing that the memories will never go away. And those memories were many, from company picnics, golf days and the infamous annual at the Manitoba Club, not to mention just the every day enjoyment we all had working together. Ernie was a fun loving man. You will be missed Ernie - or as Pete used to call him Ernesto! - Posted by: Grant Swain () on: Jan 03, 2012

  • I will miss you, "Dad" as you allowed me to call you because of my friendship with Tara. Always kind and fun to be around even if I was only lucky enough to come up and see you twice. - Posted by: Stacey Smith () on: Dec 31, 2011

  • We are very sorry to hear of your loss. Mr. Lindgren was always a very nice man, with a great story to tell. Always smiling and making jokes. Enjoyed the time out at the Teulon farm with Tara and family. Take care at this difficult time. xoxo - Posted by: Suzanne Pothe () on: Dec 31, 2011

  • I am very sad to hear about Ernie's passing. My sincerest condolences to Iris and family. Unfortunately, I didn't get much chance to socialize with Ernie over the last year, but I certainly recall the good times we had in past years...NALACO men's golf day and subsequent visits to the farm, monthly lunches at Tubby's and other good times. I will remember Ernie for as long as I live, particularly his great smile and good nature. So long, my friend, rest in peace...until we meet again. - Posted by: Brian Fraser (Friend) on: Dec 31, 2011

  • We are very grateful for the last few days we had with him in the hospital where Dad was happy and very much himself. We are even more grateful for all the years prior that we had with him... camping at Wanipigow, family road trips all over Canada and the United States, weekends at the farm, bbq's in the backyard, good times at the curling club, Monarch Life kids Christmas parties... Dad was truly the cream of the crop. I hope there's a lot of him in my brothers and I. - Posted by: Tara Lindgren (daughter) on: Dec 31, 2011

  • Our deepest and heartfelt sympathy goes out to Iris and family. There are so many delightful memories that we have shared with Ernie, Iris and family. Camping trips to Wanipigow, St. Ambroise and Lake of the Woods. The many hours looking for the North Star and the eclipse of the moon. Their home was our hotel many times when we needed a place to stay when in Winnipeg and a campground at the farm. A rescue place for Tipper our dog that escaped while in Winnipeg. A friend always and will be sadly missed. Ken & Pat - Posted by: Ken & Pat Mason (Other brother and sister in-law) on: Dec 31, 2011

  • When we were kids, the best memories were of the summer vacations, which meant a camping trip, and many of these were to St. Ambroise Beach with Uncle Ernie & Aunti Iris, and my cousins. We loved sitting in their kitchen-shelter, playing cards into the night. Uncle Ernie always had a story to tell, or knew the real story behind current events. He liked to challenge me with logic problems; sometimes I figured them out. He will be greatly missed. - Posted by: Andy & Louise Carlson (Nephew/Cousin) on: Dec 31, 2011

  • Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to Iris and the family at this very sad time.we knew Ernie very well through our association at monarch life as well as the social life we enjoyed together. It seemed that back in the good old days we were always doing something together whether it was curling, snowmobiling, camping or whatever. Ernie and Wayne were always having a difference of opinion about something but always making up after. The biggest tribute we can make to Ernie is that he was always our friend in the truest sense of the word and will be sadly missed. Wayne and Marlene. - Posted by: wayne and marlene riddall (friends) on: Dec 31, 2011
