OLLA BIRDIE YURKIW (COLLINS)
Date of Passing: Dec 30, 2011
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOLLA BIRDIE YURKIW (nee COLLINS) It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Olla Birdie Yurkiw on December 30, 2011, after a lengthy illness. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph, father Olafur Collins and mother Birdie Collins. She is survived by daughter Carol Yurkiw (Kan), daughter Susan Laidlaw, grandchildren Brennan, Jordan, Alia and brother Charles Collins (Faye). Mom was born in Winnipegosis and spent her early years in Gimli. She moved to Winnipeg in her teenage years and worked in a Winnipeg Municipal Office where she met our father. She was a devoted homemaker and wife and lovingly cared for her husband during his illness. Mom conquered her failing health remarkably well. Her positive attitude was admired by family, the amazing care givers of Maples Personal Care Home and the wonderful team of Seven Oaks Dialysis Unit. Mom was a devout Jehovah's Witness and earnestly looked forward to the resurrection promise of Revelations 21:4 stating He will wipe out every tear from their eyes and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Kidney Foundation. A private funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111 www.gleneden-mb.ca

Aunty Olla always had something positive to say. The many times we spoke or corresponded through letters there was her sense of humor. I will miss her advice but know that she is asleep in death. [John 11:11] - Posted by: Anita Somai -Novasat (Niece) on: Jan 04, 2012

We met Olla at Candace Collins' and Jason Alikakos' wedding. We had the pleasure of spending time with her and her Mother while they were visiting. She will be sadly missed and our thoughts and prayers go out to all members of the family. - Posted by: Casandra and Jon Alikakos (In-In-laws of Charles and Faye Collins) on: Jan 04, 2012
