ANTON TKACHYK Peacefully on Thursday, December 29, 2011, at Carman Memorial Hospital with his family by his side, Tony Tkachyk of Carman passed away at the age of 87. Tony was born in Dufrost, MB, on May 30, 1924, and later moved to the Culross/ Fannystelle area where he farmed for approximately 60 years. Tony married the love of his life Mary on October 2, 1948, and they started their family shortly after. Tony will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Mary; along with their six children; son, Andy and his children, Tyler and Nicole; daughter, Theresa and husband Jeff Brown with their daughter Crystal; son Ken; son Dave and wife, Donna, and their daughters, Amanda and Ashley; son Don and wife, Dorothy, and their children, Ryan and Carly; and daughter, Marion and husband Brad Swark, and their children Andrea and Steven. He will also be sadly missed by his brother, Matt and wife Doris; brother Walter and wife Helen; his sister Martha and her husband Adam Sontag; sister-in-law Pat Tkachyk; brother in-law George Zalluski and wife Mildred; sister-in-law Irene Zalluski; and numerous nieces and nephews. Tony was pre-deceased by son Ron in 1990; his father, Nick; and his mother, Magdalena; brothers Steve and Roman; brothers-in-law, Mike Zalluski, Nick Zalluski, John Zalluski, John Kuzyk, Bill Turko and Steve Sucharyna; sisters-in-law, Anne Kuzyk, Jean Turko, Kay Zalluski, Kay Piluke, Neilda Tkachyk. Tony served in the Army prior to meeting and marrying Mary and it was because of this that the Legion became a big part of his life. When Dad retired from farming he finally had the time to pursue his interest in music; he loved to play the violin, but also taught himself the guitar and bass guitar, and most recently, the mandolin. He joined a band called The Remenants and enjoyed many hours playing music. Dad's favorite times were when he was surrounded by family and friends, and the house was full of music and laughter. We will all remember those special times we had together. A very special thank you to the staff of the Carman Hospital for the wonderful care they gave to Dad during his stay. The family thanks you from the bottom of our hearts for the support and compassion shown to us. Viewing and Prayers will be in Carman at Doyle's Funeral Home on Friday, January 6, 2012, at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Mass at the Elm Creek Hall Saturday, January 7, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Krystian Sokal officiating. Memorial donations can be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation or The Alzheimer's Society. Doyle's Funeral Home of Carman in charge of arrangements www.doylesfuneralchapel.com

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Hey Grandpa, Really miss you, and just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the good talks over the years, all the games of pool where you eased up on me because you were ten times the player I was, all the fun times at the farm, and for you and grandma coming to watch me play baseball. It meant a lot to me and will never be forgotten. Rest in Peace. - Tyler - Posted by: Tyler Tkachyk (Grandson) on: Sep 04, 2012
