JOHANNA (BETTY) WIEBE On December 30, 2011, with family by her side, Betty passed peacefully into a new life to be with her heavenly Father. She was born on January 1, 1930, to Johann and Helena Doerksen. In her youth she enjoyed working outdoors on the family farm. At a young age she learned the importance of family as she was blessed to be part of a very close one. On December 4, 1948, she married the love of her life Allan Abram Wiebe. Their first six years of married life were spent in Yellowknife, NWT where Mom learned the valuable life lesson of acceptance of all people. Throughout her life Mom would never judge others. She was truly an inclusive person. In 1954, Mom and Dad moved back to the family farm. Mom was home once again. They were blessed with six childrenGayle Delaurier, Brenda Lee Summers, Gloria (Greg) Nicol, Peggy (Daniel) Hebert, Carolin (Bob Albrecht) Wilson and Gary (Dorothy) Wiebe; 18 grandchildren as well as 21 great-grandchildren. Mom often said her greatest accomplishments in life were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. During our many family gatherings she looked upon us all with awe that God blessed her and Dad with such a wonderful family. We will all miss her dearly. Her memory will also be cherished by her sisters Regina Neufeld and Susan Lumley, brother George (Anne) Derksen and numerous sisters and brothers-in-law. Mom lost her best friend, our father, Allan, on September 27, 1986. A day did not go by when she did not miss him. She was also predeceased by her brothers Abe, Johann, David and Jacob and her sisters, Kay, Agnes, Mary and Elma. Mom was always very involved in her church, Niverville United. In her early years she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. In her later years she spent many hours volunteering with the UCW. She looked forward with anticipation to the Monday quilt days at the church, where she could connect with her dear friends. These ladies held a special place in Mom's heart. Mom enjoyed the outdoors and gardening immensely. She taught us all the importance of sharing God's bounty with others. For years she would secretly bring vegetables from her garden to Niverville Place and Pleasant Plaza, placing them in the halls for anyone who needed or wanted them. That was our mom, quietly doing for others without acknowledgement. If you happened to visit her around mealtime, you were expected to sit down and join in. If it wasn't mealtime, then it was faspa or coffee time. Either way, when you visited you ate. She was a wonderful hostess. The family would like to thank the wonderful care provided by Dr. Chris Burnett, her home care staff and the staff of St. Pierre Hospital. A celebration of Mom's life will be held Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 2:00 p.m., at the Niverville Word of Life Church with lunch to follow. A private interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hiebert Heritage Cemetery Inc. (information will be available at the Church) or a charity of choice.
