OLIVE QUARNSTROM (OLIVE GREGG NORWOOD) 1921 - 2012 On January l, 2012, Olive Gregg Quarnstrom, aged 90 years, passed away peacefully at Grace Hospice. Olive was predeceased by her husband Roland Quarnstrom, October 1989. She leaves four daughters, Carol Harvey (Rob) of Toronto, Linda Enarson (Richard) of Toronto, Nora Bengtson (Mark) of Caledonia, Joy Moylan of Winnipeg; 15 grandchildren, Dave, Dan, Michael, Lauren, Joseph, Jean, Simon, Beth, Jayne, Elena, Angali, Kirsten, Steve, Shannon, Jean; and 22 great-grandchildren, Ben, Jack, Laura, Kim, Mariah, Keana, Dalton, Cavin, Trey, Chris, Brandon, Anika, Ryan, Kyle, Ashley, Troy, Maya, Layth, Lyam, Hailey, Kiera and Rowan. Olive was born in Winnipeg, August 19, 1921, to Jean and George Norwood and grew up on Bannatyne Avenue. She had an older sister Molly that died in her teens. Olive graduated from Daniel Mcintyre, she also attended Elim Chapel where she met her lifelong friend Allie. After graduation, Olive went to Winnipeg Bible College where she joined a Ladies Trio that went on to sing on CJOB for seven years. A highlight for them was performing at an early Billy Graham assembly. Olive was a talented pianist and at this time became an accomplished organist. Throughout the war years, Olive worked at the NO.7 Equipment Depot as a civil servant. After the war she became a nurse. For many summers Olive worked at the Hull's publishing Company. It was there she met an Air Force Officer Roland Quarnstrom who kept revisiting the store to buy books. They married in 1947. Olive and Roland moved to the Riverview area and raised four girls. During these years Olive used her typing skills to help Roland with his work. She also was the organist for the Covenant Church for 10 years. She was active in Women's Christian Club and led several Bible studies. An avid ice skater in her earlier years, Olive continued to enjoy the outdoors and especially Winnipeg's cold winters. As well as her love of music, she took pleasure in travelling, oil painting and entertaining. She had a great memory and delighted in keeping in touch with old and new friends. When Olive became a proud grandmother and great-grandmother, she had many family gatherings at her home creating cherished memories for us all. Later in life, Olive was active at St. Aidan's Church and for the past four years made new friends, The Happy Gang at the Terrace. Olive was a positive upbeat person who often saw a little humour in most situations and could be caught humming a tune while walking very fast. She was devoted to her faith, family and friends. A celebration of Olive's life will be held January 14, Saturday, 2:00 p.m. at St. Aidan's Anglican Church, 274 Campbell St. The family would like to express appreciation for the compassionate care given during Olive's illness and the support of many throughout her life. If friends so desire, donations can be made to St. Aidan's Anglican Church Elevator Fund (274 Campbell St., Winnipeg, MB R3N 1B5) or charity of choice. • I am very sorry to hear of Mrs. Quarnstrom's passing and send my condolences to her family. She was a kind and understanding woman and I am glad I knew her if only a little and only for a short time long ago. - Posted by: Aaron Schwartz (friend) on: Mar 31, 2012

  • Our family has never known a world without Olive in it. She and my Mom, Allie, have been forever friends and together they have modeled a faithfulness to one another and to their Lord that we have all been privileged to witness over the years. As a child, when I would manage to get a sick day at home, I always knew that I would have to amuse myself while Mom had her morning chat with Olive. Olive is woven into the fabric of our family. she is missed and will continue to be missed by all - Gary, Mary, Heidi, Nathan and Ben and of course, by Allie. Much love. - Posted by: Mary Reimer (friend) on: Jan 13, 2012
