WILLIAM MORRISON WALKER (BILL) Peacefully, on Thursday, January 12, 2012 Bill Walker passed away at St. Boniface Hospital with his wife Grace by his side. Bill will be forever remembered by daughters Linda, Janet (Toby Chase) and Sandra; grandchildren Carleigh, Allison, Sarah and Davis; his sister Edna Moyle; members and honorary members' of the Walker and Ogston clans. He was predeceased by his parents William and Clara (Ogston) Walker. Born in Winnipeg in 1928, Bill grew up in the West End attending John M King, General Wolfe and Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. He and his best friend Grace were married 60 years and raised their three girls in East Kildonan. He worked in the actuarial department of Sovereign Life (1944-49) and enjoyed a successful career in management with the Manitoba Telephone System (1949-85). A true sports enthusiast and team player, he participated in soccer, hockey, golf, curling and baseball; coached and refereed young athletes and served as an official of provincial and world curling competitions. He held season tickets for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Winnipeg Jets and served as an active member of the Kildonan Masonic Lodge. Special times include years spent at the family cabin at Austin Lake where happy hour was strictly observed and the favourite expression was aren't we lucky! The family extends gratitude to Dr. Chowdhury, Dr. Sawchuk and the Palliative team whose compassion and care was such a comfort. Family and friends are invited to consider making a contribution to CancerCare or a charity of their choice. • This is so sad. Bill was an exceptional person to me. I had the pleasure of working alongside of Bill when MTS computerized their payroll system. He was always smiling and greeted everyone like a true friend. My condolences to the family. - Posted by: Bob Bull (co-worker) on: Jan 14, 2012

  • Bill Walker was the definition of a gentleman: a person who made you feel comfortable. Whether he was beating you at soccer, curling, golf, or in a practical joke; you still felt okay about it. He seemed to be smiling all the time and to be on the verge of breaking into an infectious laugh. His virtues are too numerous to mention and a greater legacy is impossible for anyone else to leave—a loving wife and three accomplished and respectful daughters. I will sorely miss his kind and his kindness. Alan Skrepnek, family friend - Posted by: Alan Skrepnek (family friend) on: Jan 14, 2012
