MERLIN LEROY GIBBONS LEMON On January 11, 2012, Merlin Leroy Gibbons Lemon, our loving husband, father, father-in-law, brother, uncle, great-uncle and friend, passed. Merlin is survived by his wife of 47 years, Shirley-Anne, his sons Ross (Mary) Lemon, Scott Lemon, mother-in-law, Olga Hrycyshyn, and best friend Dakota. Merlin was born in Fairlight, SK. He graduated from high school in Riverton. With his love for trains, Merlin was able to obtain a job with the C.P.R. as a telegrapher and station master until the railways closed all small depots. With the toss of a coin, heads (Regina), tails (Winnipeg), Winnipeg became home. He worked for National Patrol, Provincial Government Department of Finance and retired from the Department of Labour. His endeavors were to provide a better life for his family. In his retirement he was able to attend Ross and Mary's wedding in Augusta, GA. He also traveled to meet them in Las Vegas which he truly enjoyed. Merlin was a kind, gentle man who loved his music, tinkering, computer and word games. We will forever cherish our memories of Merlin. A celebration of his life, with a come and go tea, will be held Tuesday, January 17 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre, 4000 Portage Avenue. • Our deepest sympathy to Shirley-Anne and sons on the loss of a devoted father and husband. I first met Merlin when we applied and were hired on the same date by the Province of Manitoba, Mining and Use Taxes Branch. Even though our career paths only lasted a few years we did meet on occasions in the following years at such places as curling, convention centre, casino, etc. and would quickly get caught up on all family activities and sporting news of his sons. It always seemed that it was only a few days since we last spoke however it was probably a few years. Our condolences. • Our sincere condolences to Shirley-Anne and family. I remember working with Merlin for Employment Standards for the last 14 years of my working life. We remember when Merlin and Shirley-Anne rented our motor home several times for a week or so at a time during their summer holidays. They both appeared to enjoy their RV adventure and so we still remember those good times. Merlin was a great teacher and co-worker and always willing to give you some great advice on any legal case I was working on at the time. We will always remember Merlin as a happy go lucky guy and will miss him dearly. Sam and Rita Savoie, Mazatlan Mexico - Posted by: Sam and Rita Savoie (Friends) on: Jan 15, 2012
