Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM WAYNE TUCKER April 29, 1945 - January 15, 2012 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father, William Wayne Tucker. Wayne died peacefully at home on Sunday, January 15, 2012. Wayne will be lovingly remembered by his wife Dianne, daughters Natalie (Alain) and Adrienne (Arthur), and his precious grandson Theo. Wayne is also survived by his brother and fishing companion Gary (Roberta) and family, and sister Eleanor (Fred) and family. Wayne was predeceased by his parents William (Bill) and Margaret Tucker. Growing up in the Weston area, Wayne attended Weston School, Cecil Rhodes, Daniel McIntyre Collegiate and the University of Winnipeg. He received his Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Manitoba in 1967. Wayne began his teaching career at John Henderson Junior High in 1967, moving to River East Collegiate in 1976, where he was part of the Guidance Department until his retirement in 2002. Wayne was also involved with Student Council activities and coached volleyball for most of his career. Over the years, he thoroughly enjoyed all the interaction he had with his co-workers and students both inside and outside the classroom. Wayne was a devoted husband and father. He spent many hours coaching and watching the girls' soccer and volleyball games. Summer vacations spent traveling, camping, hiking and fishing were especially treasured family times. The family would like to thank Wayne's family physician, Dr. Doug Henry, and the many specialists that have provided Wayne with such good care over the years. Wayne's quiet countenance and quick wit will be missed by all who knew him. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, January 24 at 3:00 p.m., at Immanuel United Church, 755 Golspie Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 200-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 0S6 or the Heart Failure Clinic at the St. Boniface Hospital, Y3033 - 409 Tache, Winnipeg, MB R2H 2A6. Wayne was a very likeable guy. I first heard of him as one of the “older guys” when we both grew up in the west end and attended Daniel Mac. At that time of life a few years difference made a big difference in who you associated with. Those years melted away when Wayne was one of the first friendly faces I encountered when I began teaching at John Henderson. I followed him to River East Collegiate and we came to know him, Diane, Natalie and Adrian well. Ingrid and I really appreciated them. I seemed to follow Wayne in many ways. We had our family a little after they had theirs. I coached volleyball a few years after I had seen Wayne coaching. I eventually was pleased to be able to occupy one of the counselling positions at REC that Wayne had so ably filled years before. Considerate, thoughtful, fun loving, are the ways I remember Wayne. He brought those qualities to his work and to the relationships that he valued and worked intentionally to maintain. Grateful to have known him and his family. - Posted by: Barry Esselmont (Fellow teacher) on: May 31, 2022

I worked with Wayne as a fellow counsellor in the River Easr Schol Division. He was one of my mentors. A gentle soul who always had the time to sit and talk, share ideas and provide support. He was an admired educator and I value the time I was able to spend with him and all the things I learned from him. - Posted by: Carolynne Pitura (colleague and friend) on: Jan 27, 2012

Wayne and I taught together at John Henderson Jr. High and became very good friends. He was one of the finest people that I ever worked with. In later years after I retired I substitute taught, often at River East Collegiate where Wayne and I often caught up on what was going on in our lives. Many times we met on New Years Eve at Rossmere Golf and Country Club. Even though we may not have seen each other for a year the great warmth that he showed for his friends was exceptional! My greatest sympathy to Diane and his family. Wayne was truly a special person and all those who came in contact with him including his students will be sharing this great loss! - Posted by: Ron Bodner (friend and colleague) on: Jan 24, 2012

I attended River East Collegiate from 1987 to 1990. Mr. Tucker assisted me with various issues during my high school years. He was very caring and extremely helpful any time I needed guidance. I am proud to have known him and proud to be a River East grad class of 90! - Posted by: Jeff Thompson (Former student River East Collegiate) on: Jan 21, 2012
