I knew Shawn in University. We were very close. We even had some contact when she was in medical school in Toronto. I was doing my medical training in London Ontario. I am getting older now and starting to reminisce about the people I cared about. Shawn was of them. I am so sad to hear of her passing. Grant, I have found memories about many dinners at your parents place with your dear sister, Shawn. Those memories will stay with me forever. Best wishes. David Craig. - Posted by: David Craig (Friend) on: Sep 07, 2024

Quite unexpectedly, my family moved to Victoria 2 1/2 years ago. Finally finding a caring and dedicated Doctor for my children, I was searching the contact info for our files be transferred here. Only now, did I know of her passing. My heart aches with sadness. She took care of my three children as if they were her own. In particular, my daughter Isabella. Please accept our family's late condolences. May the Lucash family be warmed by the kindest and fondest memories Shaun has created with the rest of the world. May God's love continue to work through special people like his faithful servant, Dr. Shaun Lucash. Dr. Lucash was my children's doctor since she took over Dr. Davis practice in 1991. She was a very caring and patient person with my kids. I will forever be grateful of the wonderful care she provided. Very saddened to hear of her passing. - Posted by: cheryl sokol (mother of her patients) on: Nov 19, 2012

Dr. Lucash has been my children's doctor since they day they arrived 17 years ago and has been second to none in their treatment and care (she also treated mommies with new babies at the same time!) She even took on my youngest born 9 years ago when she was no longer taking new patients because she wanted the entire set! We are truly saddened by her passing and she has set the bar high for others. May God be with you and your family. Forever in our hearts and memories ~ Daigneaults - Posted by: Deanna D. She was my pediatrician since I was a baby, I only recently switched doctors, but for the nineteen years I've been living my life, Dr. Lucash has been the one that's helped me go through all the sickness and injury I've ever been through. I will always be grateful. - Posted by: Paul Quimio (Patient) on: Feb 03, 2012

So sad to hear about this. My kids started seeing Dr. Lucash when she took over Dr. Davies old practice. She was a great lady and always had a soft spot for my kids (probably everyone's kids!) She was always so supportive of me raising my kids on my own. This is a great loss to all who knew her. My thoughts are with her family, especially her mom who we got to know in the first year of Dr. L's practice. Rest in peace. Dr. Lucash was my pediatrician for 9 years. She was an amazingly smart woman, she diagnosed a condition I had that baffled other doctors. I will never forget that! I hope I can be half the woman she was! My deepest condolences to her family. - Posted by: Nicole Heintz (Patient) on: Jan 31, 2012

Many a happy summer holidays spent sneaking to the back hill to watch drive-in movies 'on-the-sly'! :) My sympathies to all, until we meet again. - Posted by: Shelley (Koropatnick) Mosey (Cousin) on: Jan 29, 2012

I`m so sorry to hear of the passing of Shaun. I have many fond memories of the whole Koropatnick family from the old days of get togethers and most recently with Grant and auntie Mona and uncle Andy. Shaun and I are the same age and I`ve been quietly worried about her for some time. God bless her and her family....rest in peace my dear cousin...we all loved you more than you`ll ever know. My deepest sympathies to family and loved ones. - Posted by: Ray and Dianne Koropatnick (cousin to Ray) on: Jan 28, 2012

For 14 years from the day I was born she was my paediatrician along with my brothers and for a while a co-worker of my mother`s at St. Boniface Hospital on the paediatrics ward till it closed and she opened her private practise. She put in so much handwork and effort in over a multitude of years and the generosity and love she had while working with kids like me and my brother making sure we were all able to have a healthy and happy childhood. I don't think I could find a doctor who did a better job or a doctor I could love more. - Posted by: Gillian Fortlage (my paediatrician ) on: Jan 28, 2012

Jan 21 was a very sad day!! It is not fair that the really good people die young. I am a firm believer that some do not deserve to die when they do. I will miss her dearly. It is nice to have someone who treated you like an equal (even though I was not even close to being her equal) and to never judge me. RIP - Posted by: Tamara Grant (cousin) on: Jan 28, 2012

We always enjoyed a medical educational night out if Shaun was there, ready with a witty comment or a pearl of knowledge, in particular an evening meeting where she was the key speaker well on into her illness and gave a clear, clever, concise talk on the topic of the day. Impressive! And never complained about her lot in life--always joyous and positive. We will always have fond memories of the trip we were on together to Victoria where she and Oscar bought a Bay tree, which we thought was very brave, given the challenges of Winnipeg weather, but so typical of her zest for life. An angel taken up by the angels.... - Posted by: Kathy and David Connor (colleagues and friends) on: Jan 27, 2012

My special memory of Shaun(a) was when we were little, at Squaw Rapids, with our families. We were there to see what her dad was working on and for us, it was to PLAY. I especially remember our little walk together, hand in hand. From all the Melnechenko descendents, our deepest condolences to Oscar, Mona, Joanne,Grant and their families. - Posted by: Dawnis Halyk-Lesko (Cousin on her father's side) on: Jan 27, 2012

Dr. Lucash was there right from the beginning of my little Madeline's life. She comforted us both through the needles, ear infections, and the cold weigh-ins. She was gentle and kind and counselled me wisely through 17 years. How many people can you say that about? Thank you Dr. Lucash for everything; you are a woman who made a difference in people's lives. Our condolences to the family. - Posted by: Kristine Dubois-Vandale (Daughter was her patient since 1994) on: Jan 26, 2012

Shaun and I knew each other from junior high. She was always easy to spend time with and provided a calming effect on me prior to tests. Though we lost contact with each other after I got married, I always kind of knew what was going on with her life as my daughter practised medicine at the same hospital. It is sad to hear of someone so young and vibrant to die, may she be at peace in the arms of the Lord. - Posted by: Debra Chan (friend from junior high) on: Jan 26, 2012

Shaun's legacy of caring for children will be remembered through her service on the Manitoba Advisory Board of the Children's Wish Foundation several years ago. As a Board colleague, I will always remember her pleasant and thoughtful ways, along with her deep sense of compassion and loyalty to the children, particularly those suffering with life-threatening illness. I'm sure Shaun has been welcomed into heaven by a number of familiar young smiling faces. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family as you deal with your loss. - Posted by: Michele Augert (Colleague, Children's Wish Foundation Advisory Board - Manitoba) on: Jan 26, 2012

What a great loss to the world and to the medical community. My children, now 19, 17 and 9 still look forward to getting needles because of Dr. Lucash. I think that says it all about her skills as a Doctor and her amazing rapport with her little Patients. - Posted by: Shannon O'Connor (My children's Paediatrician) on: Jan 26, 2012

My son, now 26 and daughter, now 19 had Dr. Lucash as their pediatrician from birth, beginning at the St. Boniface Hospital then to her private practice. Both my children adored, trusted and believed in her. Her words of comfort "ah, sweetie" as a welcome into her office, did it for them. As for myself, she gave me strength in believing that I could care for Matthew and Kaitlyn's health, especially as a single mom. She will be truly missed by our family. Our sympathy to the family of Dr. Lucash. - Posted by: Bruce Family (Patients) on: Jan 26, 2012

My condolences to you Oscar and your extended families in this time of sorrow with the loss of your dear spouse. It has been many years since we spoke last but it seems like yesterday and Shaun was my son's Doctor early in his life 20 years ago. She was a special lady and an excellent Physician. - Posted by: Kevin Duckett (Acquaintance - RCMP ret'd) on: Jan 26, 2012

I did not know Shaun well in high school but we had one day together that I have never forgotten. It was grade 9 or 10 and we had something piano related at U of W - a recital or an exam. For me, it was a day of nerves and fear and mad calculation trying to skip out. But there was the whole issue of parents and teachers and Shaun's mother was my ride home. And through it all, Shaun was quietly confidant and calm and a salve to my frayed nerves. To this day the memory of it ties my stomach in knots. But equally strong is remembering how grateful I was to Shaun for being there with me. My condolences to Shaun's family. May your lifetime of memories bring you peace and comfort. - Posted by: Maureen Doran () on: Jan 26, 2012
