HERTA J. VOTH January 3, 1923 - January 23, 2012 In the early hours of January 23, 2012, Herta J. Voth peacefully went into the arms of her Lord. Born in Russia on January 3, 1923, she was the second of 10 children. She came to Canada with her family in 1925, growing up in Springstein, Manitoba. The nurses training Herta received at the Misericordia Hospital in Winnipeg opened up a lifetime of service for her in many places, including Canada, Columbia, Panama and Bolivia. After returning to Canada, she adopted a family to become a mother and grandmother to Mukai, Rujeko and Tinaye Muza, and continued to care for and serve many others, motivated at all times by her deep faith in God. She was predeceased by her parents, Johannes and Katherina Voth; brothers, Alvin and Toby; sister Holdina; brother-in-law Peter Wiebe and several nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her family members, Walter and Lena Voth, Lena Voth, Vera Voth, John and Martha Voth, Susanna Voth Wiebe, Ben and Erna Falk, Walt and Edith Wichert, and George and Kae Froese; by Mukai, Rejeiko and Tinaye Muza; and by three generations of nieces and nephews. She was our inspiration, just as she inspired all who crossed her paths. While mourning her passing, we rejoice that she is at home with her heavenly Father. A viewing will be held at Portage Avenue Church, 1420 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a short time of guided reflection beginning at 7:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the Portage Avenue Church on Friday, January 27, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. to be followed by a reception at the church. A private interment will precede the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Mennonite Brethren Mission Service International or The Gideons International. Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • A Panamanian church in Panama City and other friends of Herta ask me about her. She encouraged Navidad G. (Panama) to accompany her in her jungle journeys far to the east of the famous canal. A horse that she was riding on a steep incline, stumbled and she fell off unhurt but the horse slid down the hill like a boulder crashing through the brush. It finally stopped and recovered. Herta has finally stopped ministering down here but continues to minister before the Father with her praises. Herta ministered to this servant by channeling funds for 4 years from her nephew Dan Voth( Bermuda) to me (Costa Rica and Panama with Operation Mobilization). - Posted by: George Wiens (Christian missionary friend) on: Jan 31, 2012

  • We are saddened by Herta's passing but rejoice that she is in the loving arms of her Saviour and Lord. We have known Herta for a number of years and have always been inspired by her positive attitude despite the fact that she was often in discomfort and pain. She accepted these "thorns in the flesh" with dignity and complete trust in her Heavenly Father. We will miss her. Our condolences to her family, Rendall and Susan Pries - Posted by: Rendall and Susan Pries (Friends) on: Jan 25, 2012

  • I got to know Herta in her retirement years, when I managed the senior home she lived in. I continued visiting her when she moved in with her family and at Pembina Place, as recently as a few weeks ago to acknowledge her 89th birthday. I never met a more humble, caring saint of God. I know she was waiting for the Lord to call her home but will miss her. Visits with Herta were always very inspiring and encouraging. Well done good and faithful servant. - Posted by: Selma Pauls (friend) on: Jan 25, 2012

  • I met Herta through my parent's church back in the mid 90s. I moved away but kept in touch with her through letters and briefly through emails (while she was still able to type/write back). I truly admired her unwavering faith. Though we mourn her departure we are certain she is at home with her loving Father. Our sincere condolences to Herta's family and friends. - Posted by: Claudia & Darren Brietzke (Friend) on: Jan 25, 2012

  • B. B. Fast, my father, was Herta's teacher in Springstein. Our families shared my good and difficult times in the early years of the community. Herta also helped the Fast siblings with research at the time we wrote our parents' life story. Our condolences to her family. Herta was a Saint in her own way. - Posted by: Neil and Gerda Fast (Friend and Family Friend) on: Jan 25, 2012

  • Herta was a very close friend of my mother, Mearle (Diamond) Chegwin as they were nursing students at the Misericordia General Hospital in the early 1950s. Their antics were well known in our home and listening to Herta and Mom recount their adventures with the nuns, doctors, and patients was something we looked forward to everytime Herta came to the farm to visit. Herta wrote Mom's eulogy and I read it at Mom's service a year and a half ago. We all knew the love they had for each other and learned so much about being "Best Friends Forever" by observing this bond. They will surely be happy to see each other in heaven. Our deepest sympathy to Herta's family. - Posted by: Heather and Tom Orlukiewicz (Family friend) on: Jan 25, 2012
