STANLEY FOSTER SHIPPAM August 6, 1912 - January 22, 2012 Stanley Foster Shippam passed away peacefully with family at his side on Sunday evening, January 22, 2012 at the Grace Hospice. He was 99 years old. Stan was predeceased by his first wife Mary Lillian Robertson (1990), a daughter Ethel Karen, a brother Fred, sisters Mavis and Mable, and his grandson Randy Shippam (2009). Left to cherish his memory are his wife May Elizabeth (Betty), sisters Margaret Shippam and Eileen Johnson, sons Brian (Geri), and Ellis (Geri) and daughter Bev Inglis (Bob), plus five grandchildren, Scott (Nancy), (Roberta), Kristy Proutt (Russ), Greg (Beth), Kim Inglis-Clarke (Stephen), Chris (Timmi), and his 12 great-grandchildren: Emily and Carter; Max and Sam; Abbey and Owen; Cody; Ethan, Chelsea and Carson; Amelia and Elliot. Additional family include stepsons, Des (Joanne) and Gary (Pat) Beckstead plus four grandchildren, Nicholas, Carl (Kelly), Denise and Eric. Stan was born in Reston, Manitoba, moved to Winnipeg to attend Business College, and worked for Canadian News as Operations Manager for over 40 years. Dad loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, curling and all sports. He continued to golf and curl until he was 97. He also continued to maintain his property with Betty's support until two years ago. His active lifestyle has made him a wonderful role model for the entire family. An avid gardener, he spent many hours tending his flower and vegetable gardens. He was a great handyman, always willing to help the family with any project. One of his many joys was travelling to visit family and friends as well as having them visit him in his own home. We have all been blessed with having the influence of this special man in our lives and his legacy that family is more important than anything else. He was a past-master of the Meridian Lodge and a very active member of the United Church for most of his life. The family would like to express appreciation to the nurses and staff of the Grace Hospice for their kindness and compassionate care. A service honouring his life will be celebrated on Monday, January 30 at 2:00 p.m., at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home and Reception Centre, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.mb.ca 885-9715
