RUTH MACHELL DAHL (nee WILSON) September 25, 1923 - January 24, 2012 It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dearly loved Mom, Grannie and friend. She leaves to cherish her memory daughter Naomi (Larry), son Marc (Susan), grandchildren Chad, Charwin, Brad and Ashley, sister-in-law Helen, niece Mary (Rob), nephew Barry (Fay), nephew Ellary and very special niece and friend, Judy. Mom was predeceased by her beloved husband Dick, parents Beatrice and Ellary P. Wilson, brother Walter, sister Carrie (Cap), and nephew Grant Rowan. Mom was born in Fleming, Saskatchewan and raised on the family farm where she learned her love of gardening from her dad and her fabulous cooking ability from her mom. After graduating from high school Mom moved to Winnipeg where she met her beloved Dick at the Winnipeg Roller Rink. Ruth and Dick were married on October 19, 1946. Mom and Dad loved the outdoors and saved their money and bought the property at Twin Lakes Beach in the early 1950s, a treasured family spot, enjoyed by everyone. Moving to Charleswood in the mid 1950s to Community Row where they raised their family and were very involved in community activities. Mom was a Cub Scout leader and ran the canteen at Robin Park Community Centre for many years. Mom and Dad liked to travel and took us on many camping trips. They continued their love of travel after retiring - RVing across Canada and United States snowbirding in Texas and Arizona. Mom cherished all of her friendships, from childhood, Charleswood, Avon, the lake, from travels and caregivers in later years. Mom, Grannie was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren and treasured all the time spent with them. Every Sunday was a family dinner at Community or the lake. Mom took such good care of everyone. Mom coped with MS for the last 30 years, always overcoming every curve the disease dealt her along the way. Mom's commitment to family was further demonstrated by her faithful support of her sister during Carrie's own journey with MS. We will always remember how lucky we were for having such a special person in our lives. Though we will shed tears because she is gone her legacy lives on in all the traditions and values she has taught us. Simply, Ruth was Spunky, Elegant and Gracious. The family wishes to thank everyone who helped or cared for Mom since Dad's passing in 2001. If friends so desire, a donation in her memory can be made to the MS Society of Canada, Manitoba Division, 100 - 1465 Buffalo Place, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3T 1L8. A celebration of Ruth's life will be held on Monday, January 30, 2012 at 2:00 p.m., at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway.
