THOMAS ALBERT NEWTON June 30, 1925 - January 25, 2012 Peacefully and in comparative comfort, Thomas Albert (Al) Newton passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at the age of 86. He is survived and will be sadly missed by his wife, Ruth of 53 years, son David, daughter-in-law Gayle and granddaughter Kaitlyn; daughter Cathy, husband Ed and grandsons Brandon and Austin of Calgary; son Tim, daughter-in-law Charlene and son Paul and daughter-in-law Rachel of Vancouver. He was predeceased by his parents Kate and Bert Newton of Windsor, Ontario; brother John and sister-in-law Joan of Brentwood Bay, British Columbia. Al was born in St. Catharines, Ontario; grew up and attended school in Windsor, Ontario. Following graduation from High School, as it was war time, he joined the Royal Canadian Navy to be stationed in Halifax, Nova Scotia. When the war was over, he returned to Windsor to work and study. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the Detroit Institute of Technology and his Masters in Business Administration from the University of Michigan. He retired from the Chrysler Corporation in 1988, having moved from Windsor to Regina to Winnipeg with their Parts Division. Al's retirement had been filled with his involvement with friends and activities in St. Johns' No. 4 Masonic Lodge (Past Master); Scottish Rite, Valley of Winnipeg (Most Wise Sovereign) and as fife player in the Mighty Fife and Drum Band of Khartum Shrine. He was an active member of St. Andrew's Anglican Church and had served as Warden. Al loved travelling, his garden, his home, games of golf and of late, bridge on his computer. His most precious love was his family of whom he was so proud. Friends will always remember him for his ready quips, one liners, sometimes groaners and humorous stories. The family wishes to express their thanks to all the health care providers, especially those in palliative care, who have shown such kindness and compassion in their presence over the last few months. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held Tuesday, January 31, 2012 in St. Andrews Anglican Church, 2700 Portage Avenue at 2:00 p.m. Expressions of condolence may be sent to condolences@nbardal.mb.ca NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE (204) 949-2200 www.nbardal.mb.ca
