Date of Passing: Jan 27, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFRIEDRICH (FRED) REHBERG April 25, 1926 January 27, 2012 Peacefully with family by his side, the best Husband, Dad, Opa and Friend, passed away at the age of 85, at Health Sciences Centre. Dad leaves to mourn his wife of 65 years, Berta, daughter Marta (George) Jack, son Ernie Rehberg, daughter Monika (Keith) Mikkelson, Anita (Kevin) Smith, Susan (Chris) Rehberg-Reid. Grandsons, Spencer, Joel (Carlie), Jordan (Sheena), Brent, Ashton (Kim), Curtis (Rachel), Taylor (Jessica) and granddaughter Abbey. Great-grandchildren, Cayla and Blake. Dad is survived by his brother Alex (Ruth), Josephine (Fritz), Olga, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his Mom and Dad, brothers Eduard and Karl, and sister Maria. Dad was born in Kaplanow, Ukraine then immigrated to Germany and married his wife and long time companion. In 1955, Dad and Mom, with three children immigrated to Winnipeg. Once in Canada two more daughters joined the family. Dad worked in construction, specializing in plastering, with the majority of his years spent with McPhillips Construction, and then later retiring from Albert Olson Construction. Dad's whole life was devoted to his wife and family. There was no job too big or too small for Dad to tackle. He would see it needed to be done and he would get it done without anyone asking him. Mom and Dad's strong partnership of 65 years was such a great example for us to follow. Mom and Dad had a passion for gardening whether it be vegetables or flowers, always working together, Dad doing the heavy work and preparation, so Mom could follow with the planting. They both enjoyed all the sports that we all played, and continued the fan support with their grandchildren. Whether it was dance recitals, curling, baseball, hockey, highland dancing, Mom and Dad were always there rain or shine, cold or warm. Dad's gentle manner, his sense of humour, and that little grin, always won the hearts of people around him. For all of us, we will miss that face that lights up a room, every time he walked in. We all love you so much. We would like to thank Dr. Hurd, all the nurses and staff on GB3 at H.S.C. that took care of Dad during his illness. A funeral service will be held Friday, February 3, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 65 Walnut St. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Children's Wish Foundation, 350 St. Mary Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 3J2 would be appreciated, as Dad had a great fondness of all children. We first met Mr. R when we were married. He invited Don to his home while the guys were decorating the cars with those silly kleenex flowers. Don was served Akovit(sp?) and kentucky fried chicken for all the hard work. He proceeded to cough after the first sip (all over the chicken). Mr. R. had a good chuckle. Such a sweet man and so wonderfully generous with his grin. Each and every time we have visited Winnipeg he never forgot us. A nice hug and some great cookies were always presented to us. You set an example for your kids on how to be a thoughtful and loving husband for so many years. Mrs. R. is a lucky lady to have been your wife. You will be missed but never forgotten. Love and hugs to my sister-in-law Mona and husband Keith and family. Love Don and Gail McPherson - Posted by: Don & Gail McPherson (Loving friends) on: Feb 01, 2012

My love and thoughts to all the family. I met Mr. Rehberg a few years ago and had an instant liking to him. He was always smiling and almost seemed like he was up to no good, he had a great sense of humor as I soon found out. He must have liked me because I got a home made wood stool for the lake! Time to rest now and I am honoured to have met you and your fantastic family. De - Posted by: Delinda (De) LaRiviere (Friend) on: Jan 31, 2012

An outwardly very gentle man who was clearly very passionate about his family. I too enjoyed his gentle manner and that little grin. It was plain to see that he was a good man. Jeff.... - Posted by: Jeff Sveinson (Friend of the family.) on: Jan 31, 2012

Dear Monica and the Rehberg Family, My condolences on the passing of your father. I always remember him being a quiet man with that special smile when I came and played at your house after school. Your Mom always made those tasty cookies with the pink icing for Valentine's Day or Christmas. (I would love to have the recipe). They are a real example of true love being married for 65 years. May precious memories bring comfort to you in your time of sorrow. With Heartfelt sympathy, Carolyn Ranson - Posted by: Carolyn Ranson (school friend) on: Jan 31, 2012
