PHYLLIS LORNA ANNE ELLIS 1913 - 2012 Peacefully on January 30, 2012, Phyllis Ellis aged 98 years passed away at the Grace Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband Leonard in 1995 and sister Miss Billy in 2006. She will be sadly missed by the many dear friends whose lives she had touched over her many years. Phyllis was born in 1913 in Winnipeg to Mr. and Mrs. Mills. She spent six months in England in 1925 with her relatives. In the years before the Second World War, she spent many happy days at the family cottage in Sandy Hook. After the war, she met and married Leonard. They spent many wonderful years together. She was an active volunteer who willingly gave her time to those who needed her. Phyllis knit for the Children's Hospital, Tribune (Empty Stock Fund) and Cheer Board. She volunteered at the St. James Senior Centre, Canadian Red Cross, Holy Trinity Church, Missions to the Arctic, Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Salvation Army and Winnipeg Harvest. She volunteered at Deer Lodge Hospital for over 60 years and was President of the Deer Lodge Hospital Auxiliary. Phyllis was a talented lady who loved to knit, craft and bake. She continued to knit for the Rehab Centre for Children just weeks before her passing. For those who knew her, her fluorescent mittens were highly sought after. She loved to share her stories of England, her family and history. Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Holy Trinity Church, 254 Smith St., Winnipeg with interment at St. James Cemetery.
