COREY LUCAS The Light at the Lake has gone out, but the flame burns eternal in our hearts. It is with the greatest of sadness that we acknowledge the end of Corey Lucas' life, Saturday, January 28, 2012. Corey's eventful but all too short life started October 11, 1977, born Corey Sheldon Lucas to parents Rick and Pat Lucas at the Dauphin General Hospital. Corey's first love was his baby sister, Christa. She was born when he was just over a year old and they grew up very close. The family lived in Winnipegosis, until they moved to Winnipeg in April of 1982. Growing up, Corey and Christa spent most summers at their grandparents in Winnipegosis and the farm at Rice Lake. Corey graduated from Tech Voc in 1995 and work at various driving jobs through the years, the last 10 years, as a member of the Teamsters he worked on the pipeline and in the Alberta oil sands. Corey took great pride in his work. Corey loved life but he had one great passion. It was Arctic Cat. If you knew Corey, you could recognize him anywhere in his black and green wardrobe. He lived and breathed for snowmobiling. Everyone can tell a story of how they laughed so hard at some of the antics of our family comedian. Not only was Corey funny, he had a great amount of love for his family and friends and always wanted to be with people especially entertaining at his place at the lake. Corey was not a city boy. He lived to be in the country, and that is why he traveled so many miles back and forth from Alberta to Grand Marais for even a weekend. Corey is survived by sister Christa, father Rick and his wife Barb, and sister Destiny, nephew Caden, grandparents, Walter and Helen Bileski, Jim and Jolene Lucas, and Tom Bratko, Aunty Debbie, Uncle Darren and his wife Elizabeth, Uncle Bob and his wife Cindy, Uncle David and wife Lorraine, and cousins: Tyler, Mandy, Mitchell, Zachary, Rylan, Johnathon and Jamie, plus numerous second cousins. He was predeceased by his mother Patricia Bileski (Lucas), and his grandmother Jeanne Bratko. Services will be held Saturday, February 4, at 3:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street in Winnipeg, Corey will be laid to rest at his mother's side in Dauphin on Saturday, February 11. All of Corey's friends are his honorary pallbearers. Flowers may be sent to Cropo's or donations may be made to the charity of your choice. 586-8044

Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • Out of sight but not out of mind. You were and are often thought of, as your big warm character is contagious. Just look at that smile...it says it all! I'm sorry I wasn't there throughout your life Corey, it doesn't mean I don't care though. You are missed! My memories and thoughts of you are very special. A simple but significant memory that stands out to me is when you were very small and you were playing with your toy semi-trailer and you said "I want to be a truck driver like my Dad when I grow up". It was evident from a a very early age that Trucks, cars, tractors, etc. were Corey's "thing" and I think there's probably nothing more rewarding for a father(Rick) to see his little man following in his footsteps. God bless all of Corey's family and friends. - Posted by: Jan Lucas () on: Feb 19, 2012

  • WE WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER COREY AS BEING THE SMILING YOUNG MAN PLAYING GUITAR AND SINGING WITH HIS DAD AT COUNTRYFEST. SOME VERY GOOD MEMORIES. - Posted by: PETER AND KATHY POLET (FRIENDS) on: Feb 06, 2012

  • I still can't believe the news. I remember babysitting Corey and Christa when they were young ... painting smurfs on their bedroom wall and making teddy bears for them. How time has flown. Although I hadn't seen Corey in many years, he is one of those individuals you'll never forget. Always full of life and laughter. Rest in peace, Corey. You will be truly missed. - Posted by: Cindy and Bill Tucker (Friend) on: Feb 03, 2012

  • R.I.p. Corey. - Posted by: ryan kohut () on: Feb 02, 2012

  • The first time I met Corey was in Winnipegosis at our high school, in grade 9. He was in town visiting and came to school with his cousin Kelly. Corey was always around in the summer, and his presence was known especially when he got his drivers licence. We hung around, partied together and I can still hear his voice cracking jokes, and me laughing with tears rolling down my cheeks. You are a rarity in society and will always be thought of a dear friend. We miss you! - Posted by: Courtenay Aubut(Sedor) (Friend) on: Feb 02, 2012
