SARAH LILLIAN JOHNSON (nee DAVIES) January 28, 1920 - February 1, 2012 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Lil. Just a few days after celebrating 92 years of life, Lil completed her life's journey. Lil was predeceased by her husband Stephan in 2007, her parents and all of her siblings. Left to cherish her memory are all of her relatives in England and her late husband's relatives in Canada. Lil was born in Horwich, Bolton Lanes, England, to parents James and Clara Davies (Cook). She was the last surviving sibling of the family. After completing her formal schooling, Lil registered for courses in Shorthand, Typing and Office Routine in September, 1938. She completed the courses with excellent standing and was hired as an Invoice Typist at the Weston Biscuits Plane, Springfield, Adlington, England. She worked there from May 1939 to July 1940, and then was hired by the Dehavilland Aircraft Co. Ltd. Sometime during the war she met her future husband, Stephan Johnson (Steve), who was then stationed in England with the R.C.A.F. On, December 29, 1945 they were married. After Steve's discharge from the R.C.A.F. and his return to Canada in July of 1946, Lil followed him. She arrived in Canada on August 18, 1946 as a War Bride . In 1952 Lil's and Steve's dream came true when they built their bungalow on the banks of the Red River in West Kildonan. This was home to Lil for 60 years. Shortly, after arriving in Canada, Lil returned to gainful employment. For some years she worked at Eaton's of Canada. In 1954 she joined Warner - Lambert (Pfizer) as an order clerk in the confectionery department, 1984 saw her receiving her 30 year award with the company. She retired in 1985 and celebrated her retirement with a six week tour of Europe. Lil's passion was travelling to distant places. If Steve didn't feel like going, she went alone to New Zealand, Australia, Japan, China, Europe, England, and of course North America, Canada, USA and Mexico. Second to travel was the joy she found in knitting, cross stitching, collecting and watching old movies and bargain selling. Thank you to all the Home Care Workers for your services and thank you to the staff of U6 and U4 for your compassionate care during Lil's stay at Seven Oaks Hospital. Those of you who knew Lil, we will miss her, especially, those she considered her precious friends. Rest in Peace With respect of Lil's wishes, there will be no funeral service. Cremation has taken place and her ashes placed next to Steve's in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, MB. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111 www.gleneden-mb.ca

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I remember growing up and visiting Lil and Steve. She was always kind, warm and welcoming. I feel especially sad for my grandmother, as she was Lil's closet and truest friend, who stood by her in the rough times she had of late. They had been friends since 1960. My daughter still has a beautiful sweater she knit for her. We are glad to have something to remember her by. Rest in peace Lil :) - Posted by: kathleen (best friends grandaughter) on: Feb 07, 2012
