IRMA BRENGMAN (WOLFAERT) 1914 - 2012 Peacefully at the age of 97, with her devoted son, Remi, at her side, Irma Brengman passed away at Tache Nursing Centre on Thursday, February 2, 2012. In addition to her son, Irma is survived by several nieces and nephews in Belgium. She was predeceased by her father, Prosper Wolfaert (1945); mother, Mathilda Wolfaert (1966); two sisters in infancy; her favourite aunt Leonie Sciffer in Belgium, who was like a sister to her; and by her husband in October 1979. Irma was born on November 9, 1914, in Caprycke, Belgium. She came to Canada with her parents on April 13, 1925, the family eventually settling in St. Boniface. She attended St. Joseph's Academy as a boarder. She met her husband, Remi Joseph Brengman, as a fellow parishioner of the Belgian Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church and they were married in May 1941. The family home was in St. Boniface where Irma worked at the St. Boniface and St. Roch's hospitals until the birth of her son Remi. In later years, she worked at the neighbourhood IGA and Tomboy grocery stores. Irma enjoyed playing bingo and spending time at the casino. She was dedicated to her community, was a member of the Belgian Club and was involved on advisory and organizing committees with the 74th Sacred Heart Scout Group and the Belgian Seniors Group. She loved fishing and spending time at the family cottage on Bird River. Irma devotedly prayed the rosary and she spoke to the Virgin Mary as one would speak to a close friend. Remi would like to thank the staff of Tache Nursing Centre for their comforting and gentle care of his mother over the past several years. Irma was a wonderful mother, always there for her son. Thank you Mom, you will be sadly missed. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 8, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, 778 Archibald St. with viewing one hour prior to service. Interment will follow at Belgian Sacred Heart Cemetery.
