Viola is survived by her son William (Sherri) and grandchildren Amber (Chris) and Ashley; her son Donald (Maryanne and children Cristofre and Jaine); sister Edna Beatty; sister and brother-in-law Alma and Tommy Carrabre (Beatty); brother Jack Beatty; sister-in-law Margaret Holt, and her many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Eliza Mae Beatty (Mackenzie) and William Alexander Beatty; mother and father-in-law Elizabeth and Thomas Albert Steggles; brother-in-law Albert Steggles; brother-in-law and sister-in-law John and Elizabeth Giles; sister-in-law Lois Beatty; brother-in-law Jim Holt, and her grandson William Andrew Steggles. Vi was born on November 5, 1925 on the family farm just outside of Carlyle SK. She moved to Winnipeg in 1944 to live with her sisters. During this time she attended Success Business College and worked at Eaton's and the Hudson's Bay. She met Bob Steggles in 1946 and they married on July 7, 1951. They had a long and happy marriage for 55 years. Vi was a devoted Mother and Grandmother who took great pride in raising her children and grandchildren, they were the center of her world. She was a skilled homemaker who liked to sew, knit, garden, cook and bake the most delicious pies and cookies. She loved listening to her music, dancing, playing card games with friends and a good cup of tea and dainty to satisfy her sweet tooth. In the summers she loved to be outdoors and spend time in the sun. She enjoyed many summers with her family at Grand Beach, the Carrabre cabin on the Lee River and the family cottage that Bob built at Hillside Beach. Vi liked to travel and enjoyed her trips to Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, Las Vegas and England but she was the happiest spending time with her family. Vi was a gentle, caring and happy soul who loved her family in a big way. Her generous heart filled her home with love, family and friends. She leaves her children and grandchildren with the precious gift of knowing that they were truly loved. She will live in their hearts forever. Thanks to the staff at Oakview Place for their care of mom over the last few years. A memorial service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Memorial Donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Society, Unit 10-120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2.
