  • Gary was my private tutor for 4 years. I will always appreciate his kind and patient nature. He was truly an inspiration in my life and helped me find my path toward becoming an oncologist. He is sadly missed. - Posted by: Alan Smith (Student) on: Jan 06, 2013

  • Well we remember the many gigs we shared together, especially the Messiah productions. You always played "The Trumpet shall Sound" with such finesse and musicality, and now you are in the place whereof you played. We will miss your gentle spirit. • It's only been 10 years since I was at Oak Park, and I was lucky enough to be in band all three years as well as jazz band. If it wasn't for Mr Pollard's encouragement and good humor I never would have picked up an oboe or an alto sax. Something I'd previously been told I wasn't good enough. He instilled all of us with a sense of achievement, really made us all like part of the family. And he was always there. I feel extremely lucky to be one of the students who got to know him, and I know that his level of patience will always be sorely missed among kids who want to learn. - Posted by: Sarah Greenman (former student) on: Feb 15, 2012

  • Mr. Pollard was a great musician! It was an honor to play in Handel's Messiah at Calvary Temple in the same orchestra for many years. "The trumpet shall sound" will always be a favorite. My condolences to his family at this time. - Posted by: Jennifer Ford (fellow musician) on: Feb 14, 2012

  • What the best band teacher in the World. I loved class and his passion. He was a great man. And I loved the bond our class had with Him, One student wrote him a song and at our last performance ever, all us Sr students played it for him. I still remember that evening so clear. Mr Pollard you instilled so much in us and in me, thanks for instilling all you have in me. Thanks for all the great memories in high school! - Posted by: Sarah Johnson (Student) on: Feb 14, 2012

  • As a young teacher, Gary always offered a generous hand of support. As an "older" teacher, Gary offered the same hand. He is a dignified, compassionate gentleman and he made a difference in so many lives. He lived with love, and his family meant the world to him. Thanks, Gary, for so many years of heartfelt smiles. My thoughts are with all of you at this sad time. - Posted by: Teresa Lee (Colleague/Friend) on: Feb 14, 2012

  • I played Horn in the Winnipeg Brass Quintet with Gary for many years. Sometimes the group rehearsed in the Oak Park High School band room, but most of the time, we rehearsed in the basement at Gary's house. The rehearsals and concerts we shared are one of the high points in my former career as a professional musician. Gary was a true gentleman, a fine musician, a great teacher, and a special friend. I will miss him immensely. - Posted by: Karl Strieby (Former colleague and friend) on: Feb 14, 2012

  • Gary played the trumpet at the RRC Convocation Ceremonies for many years. I loved to hear him play as our graduands entered the gym. I will forever miss him at our ceremonies. He was a kind and gentle soul. - Posted by: Jeanne Downing (Fellow musician and friend) on: Feb 14, 2012

  • It's been almost 17 years since I was a student of Mr. Pollard's. Band class was one that I looked forward to every day! I learned so much from Mr. Pollard over the 3 years that I was in the concert and jazz bands. I'm so sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Nikki Cook (Student) on: Feb 14, 2012
