EGON SCHNEIDER It is with sadness in our hearts we announce the sudden passing of Egon Eugen Schneider on February 13, 2012. Dad was born the fifth child of seven to Ferdinand and Wilma Schneider in Hermanstadt, Romania on March 11, 1936. He immigrated to Canada in 1957 where he worked as a farmhand in Inwood, MB. In 1958 he moved to Winnipeg to work in his trained field as a machinist and tool and die maker. He married the love of his life, Catherina DeBeer on New Year's Eve, 1960. Together they raised their six children; Susan (Barry), Robert (Lynn), Caroline (Duane), Egon (Nikki), Liza (Denis), Alex (Kristin). He ended his career as General Manager with Cadorath Uniflyte after 27 years in 2005. Dad made numerous friends with his knowledge of five languages (and taste for beer!). He loved to curl, fish, golf and was a competitive cross-country skier. Nothing gave Dad (Opa) more joy than cooking for and being with family. He loved spending time with his 15 grandchildren (and 12 great-grandchildren), or walking his canine companion, Penny. The service will be held Saturday, February 18, 2012, 2:00 p.m. at Thomson Funeral Home. The family would like to thank the WFD and EMS personnel and VGH Emergency and ICU staff for their care, compassion and expertise. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. THOMSON FUNERAL HOME 669 Broadway, Winnipeg 783-7211 Send expressions of sympathy at www.thomsonfuneralchapel.com
