Born: Nov 25, 1923
Date of Passing: Feb 14, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDR. MURIEL E. CROSS 1923 2012 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Muriel Emma Cross. She leaves to mourn her passing: her husband William (Bill) and four children: Beverly (Laurie), Barbara (Vasillies), Joanne (David), David (Laurie); eight grandchildren: Rebecca (Dave), Meagan (Derek), Rachel (Serafeim), Ted, Maria, Robin, Michael, Natalie; great-grandson, Constantinos and brothers, Harold and Edward and many other family members and friends. She was predeceased by granddaughters Magda and Erin. Muriel was born in Rocanville, Sask. on November 15, 1923. She grew up in Girvin, Sask. and there received her public and high school education. Following two years as a time-keeper at the airport in Assiniboia, Sask. during the Second World War and employment at the B.A. Oil Company in Regina, Sask., she attended a commercial school in Saskatoon. Her training in accounting stood her in good stead for the rest of her life. Subsequently she attended the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon where she began her training as a candidate for the ministry of The United Church of Canada. In 1949, she married Bill and the two of them together served pastoral charges in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Ohio, U.S.A. In 2003, she was awarded the degree of Doctor of Divinity from St. Andrew's College in Saskatoon. In retirement she served with her husband on many pastoral charges in Manitoba. She died on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 in St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg. In addition to her family, Muriel's passion was for the church which she served in so many different ways. She was a practical, common sense type of person, caring, loving and strong. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Throughout her illness and indeed throughout her life, her faith in the amazing grace of God kept her strong. A service of thanksgiving will be held at Trinity United Church, 933 Summerside Avenue on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with burial the next day in St. Vital Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Memorial Fund of Trinity Church, the Mission and Service Fund of the United Church or a charity of one's own choice. Many thanks from the family to all those who in so many different ways ministered to her during her last days in hospital: pastors, doctors, nurses, care-givers, and friends. These acts of kindness will always be remembered. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE (204) 949-2200 www.nbardal.mb.ca

Second Mum Muriel always referred to me as her fourth daughter and indeed I always felt a part of the Cross Family. She was bright and fun and caring and will be missed so. Ollie and I will definitely miss our visits with her when in Winnipeg. Thinking of you all with love. Ollie and Karen - Posted by: Karen Mueller (Friend) on: Feb 18, 2012

Bill, I know how important Muriel was to you all through your marriage. Unfortunately, you will feel Muriel's absence for a long, long time. May you grieve, heavily, Bill and relish the periods of warmth, peace and laughter. Much love to you and your family. - Posted by: Wayne Barr (former congregant and colleague of Bill's) on: Feb 18, 2012

I didn't get to spend too much time with Muriel at Riverwood Square, but the times I did were very Special. Her smile just lit up the room and her Very Pleasant Personality shone! I will truly miss her. - Posted by: Trudy Grimshaw (Friend) on: Feb 18, 2012
